Chapter 4
In essence, the Trompenaar's model of incorporates seven dimensions of viewing societal cultures. In essence, this part of the paper seeks to evaluate how Germany has measured-up to the seven components as shown in this discussion.
- Universalism vs. Particularism
Understandably, Germany has experienced two phases of governance and societal orientation. Before the Second World War, Germany was ruled by a dictatorial regime that imposed rules and disregarded the social relationship among the citizens. However, after the World War II, the situation improved in a manner that people concentrate on sociable coexistence rather than regulations.
- Individualism vs. Collectivism
Germany follows a capitalistic approach to governance such that people possess properties individually. Essentially, it is not a communist state where people posses wealth communally and make a decision in groups.
- Neutral vs. Emotional
Ever since the history of Germany, the country has never been neutral about issues happening around the world. It has been opinionated concerning the behavior and decisions of other countries. As a result, James (2006) has described the country as an emotional state.
- Specific vs. Diffuse
The German society is fond of handling private and public life in a mixed manner. They do not separate public and private life because the two aspects seem to converge in most cases such that people cannot work on private or public lives in isolation.
- Achievement vs. Ascription
When Germany was the super power, it sought to take recognition by force rather. Clearly, they sought to conquer other territories by use of force. However, the current society is friendlier, and it utilizes its achievements to gain recognition.
- Sequential vs. Synchronic
Mostly, the economic perspective of Germany tends to handle several issues at the same time. When it comes to political aspects in the global and national arenas, the country approaches issues separately and in sequence.
- Internal vs. External control
The country is one of those states that define their destiny in terms of the political and economic prowess. In all aspects, it has not been controlled by the environment. Instead, it is capable of influencing the society.
Chapter 5
Boeing/McDonnell Douglas
Boeing/McDonnell Douglas Merger has been one of the most crucial company portraying cultural aspects in various parts of the world including Spain, Germany, France and USA. In 1997, the merger incurred various political and economic situations which forced it to adopt two different approaches to the cultural perspectives of its organization. Due to these political aspects in various parts of the world mentioned above, the company decided to adopt an ethnocentric integration in United States of America. This was a critical undertaking in the company although it is not relevant to the country that is being evaluated in this discussion. However, adopting this approach in USA forced it to embrace a different approach in Germany whereby it chose a regiocentric approach. The two contracting approaches are viewed as attempts of both countries regions to counterbalance each other. The counterbalancing enabled them to ensure the survival of each company within their respective soils.
