General definition
Personal responsibility is the act where one accepts and becomes accountable for his or her actions and acknowledges that those actions result to outcomes, which affect one, and it can or cannot affect others as well. This means that people have to take responsibility upon him or herself for any situation that is unfortunate or mayhem that they themselves have brought into their own lives. The person is then appointed the duty of amending any mistakes or negligence that he or she brings to their doorstep as a result of the actions done by him or her. A person has a lot of functions and responsibilities that they require to fulfill; as a parent, spouse, an employer, or employee etc. During most of those times off fulfilling these roles, the person’s strengths and emotional character is put to test and it is challenged. When you are a responsible person, you must opt for what is within your control, what is wrong and what is right, what is bad and what is good.
What is personal responsibility to oneself?
It is the habit of not placing blame for your own immaturity and a lacking of personal growth and development onto anyone else but you as your own. One should not fault another person or another event. Therefore, one should accept responsibility as a person since it is the right attitude and it displays maturity, wisdom, and it helps remove unnecessary life problems.
There are many people who compare responsibility with duty and obligation and take accountability as a load. It is time for people to realize that it is not a burden but a blessing. This is because it grants people the opportunity, power, and freedom to determine how they are going to lead their lives. The moment people come to realize this fact and accept their failures, and become aware of the truth, they themselves will feel freed and will get the power to totally change themselves. As long as people have the liberty to decide the direction in which their lives head, it is they themselves who are accountable for their own present and future, their failures and successes, and their happiness and unhappiness.
Personal responsibility has the aspect of separating an adult from a child. It is the sign of one being mature and it indicates that one incorporates totally into a world of mature and responsible adults.
Personal responsibility is the least amount needed so that one can become a person who is accomplished. It is intimately associated with achievement, motivation, self-actualization, happiness, and success. When people come to realize that, nobody will bail them out and that they are by themselves that is when they will begin to comprehend the significance of responsibility.
The contrary of being answerable to one’s own actions is ascribing blame, accusing other people and coming up with excuses for what is going on in their lives. People do almost everything as a result of habit, one of the most common habit is excuse making, people create excuses for their own doings and develop a custom of avoiding responsibility. Naturally when one wants accomplish a task and has set goals, first of all he or she prepares an excuse as a contingency plan just in case the objective is unfulfilled because of other reasons. A responsible person should therefore not turn to excuses to justify themselves when stuff happens as not expected.

Hard work is a personal decision, which every student needs to appreciate. College students unlike high school students are self-driven because they are under any close monitoring of the lecturers. One has to wake up very early, spent long hours in the lecture halls, do a lot of practical among other tedious tasks. Dedication is another very important virtue to success in college. One may be hardworking but not dedicated and committed to achieve their goals. One needs to put all the effort as much as they can to ensure that they achieve the set goals.
How job market relates personal responsibility to success
Students need to understand their future lies in their own hands. In college, one goes through training for career development. The knowledge that is acquired in campus is transferred into reality in the job market. It is therefore very important for everyone to know that if they mess up in college by playing around, there is likelihood of becoming incompetent in the field. People who take responsibility of their own lives in college and understand they are mature enough become successful people in life. It is very clear even from the results of term papers that those students who take their assignments seriously, concentrate in class and commit much of their time in reading performs very well. Most of the corporate organizations nowadays check at the applicant’s transcripts while conducting interviews, and so those who get good grades do not tarmac looking for job.

Step 1
The first step in implementing personal responsibility to college education is learning to appreciate oneself. One has to learn to appreciate him or herself regardless of the course you are doing or the level of status that you fall under. This is because one of the reasons most people fail to take personal responsibility is that they do not appreciate themselves hence they do not believe in themselves. This makes them to fall to the trap of depending on others for anything that they themselves should do and most importantly are obliged to do. The fact that they do not appreciate themselves makes them not do anything at all since they will put all the load on the others claiming that they are best suited for the job at hand be it an assignment given to them. This results to laziness when it comes to learning. Therefore, appreciating oneself gives one determination, eradicates the aspect of laziness when it comes to studying in college hence one excels in their college education.
Step 2
The second step of the implementation process is checking out how those who have succeeded in implementing personal responsibility to college education have done it. It involves checking out how they managed what they did and even borrowing some of the tips that they used. The ideas borrowed will have to be formulated in a way that they will suit you yourself and that they are in your comfort zone or a zone that you can manage. Do not try out something that you cannot totally manage. For example, do not use a timetable that does not fit or go in line with what you want to do. Try out only what you can manage.

The third and final step is to now making sure that you fully dedicate to attain of the primary objectives using the first two steps. This involves the will to deliver work despite difficult or rather uncomfortable situations. This makes one be a good student in college hence one will not have trouble in their studies and will successfully excel in college education due to having personal responsibility.
