Education is an important aspect of one's future, thus, parents and students find ways on how to make the most of their education. Some opt for online tutoring to help them boost their knowledge on certain subjects. Regardless of age, tutoring services are available online and all the student has to do is to choose his or her preferred schedule. Online tutoring and in-person tutoring share similar characteristics, but also have differences in terms of approach to learning.
With online tutoring, the mode of instruction is through the computer using multimedia devices, including webcams, video, chat facility, and discussion boards, among others. Therefore, interactions between the tutor and the student or student and fellow students are limited online unlike in regular in-person tutoring where there is face-to-face contact between the parties. Another difference is the convenience of dealing with the tutor remotely instead of leaving the house. Because the schedule and place for online tutoring are more flexible compared with in-person tutoring, both the teacher and the student can proceed with the session as long as there is internet connection (Skoskiewicz). Finally, online tutoring encourages students to participate more during discussions and ask questions considering the online "barrier" between the student and the teacher, without fear of embarrassing oneself in front of the class ("Students Prefer Online Tutoring Homework Help").
What I can do to conduct online tutoring sessions is to maximize the use of technology and incorporate multimedia resources during the tutoring session. Considering that students are very much adept with the use of technology, I can take advantage of their skill in order to motivate them further in their studies. I will expose them to other online students taking the same subjects as they are and create group discussions to encourage them to share ideas among each other.
