Individual Leadership
Introduction
Leadership occurs as one of the primary factors that have generated varied interpretations across various contexts. This can be accredited to the fact that there are various features that define the leadership traits of an individual. Many at times, leadership refers to the ability of an individual to influence and support others in accomplishing tasks assigned to them. For this purpose, leadership in business contexts refers to the ability of the senior staff in any given business firm to influence their sub-ordinates and help them in accomplishing and making adequate decisions regarding the tasks assigned to them (Maxwell 6). Evidently, being a leader does not occur in isolation nor spontaneously. Instead, it requires significant experience in overseeing certain operations. In business, leadership plays a critical role in ensuring the successful attainment of the desired business goals and objectives.
With the constantly changing business trends in the contemporary society, there is the need for adequate leadership structures. Such structures would enable business firms streamline their operations to suit the ensuing business conditions; hence, attain the desired returns. The constantly changing business environments require proactive and reactive leaders (Khatri 18). Such leaders have an adequate mastery of their working environment. In addition, proactive and reactive as a desirable trait amongst good leaders aligns with the fact that such leaders are always thinking ahead of others. In addition, the constantly changing business environments call for a flexible leaders, who can adopt to the changing business trends. These traits are important in the constantly business environments because it allows business leaders to identify business threats that are eminent in the contemporary society, where business trends are dynamic. This enables such leaders to develop structures to assure that the business operations of their firms remain normal despite the constant change in the business environments.
Qualities of a good leader
There exists various traits that define good leaders. More importantly, good leaders exhibit a high sense of commitment. In line with this, good leaders always toil hard in order to ensure that their business products and services are of high quality. In assuring this, good leaders are competent in various business endeavours; hence, they lead by example. This acts as s substantive motivator for the sub-ordinates staff because it makes the work harder than their leader. Certainly, this results in an increased efficiency amongst the sub-ordinate staff, which allows for the realization of the desired business goals (Maxwell 29). In addition, when leaders show commitment to the business, the employees or sub-ordinates will respect such leaders. It is through such respect that an organization will attain the conducive environment that enhances the realization of the desired business goals.
On another note, good leaders are always confident even in cases where their organizations businesses may seem to be crumbling. Worth noting is the fact that there are times when product and service brands are not working according to the set plans. Such situations may result in loss of profits set to be achieved by an organization, and this may end up crippling the business (Harvard Business Review on Breakthrough Leadership 34). Good leaders are not often frustrated by such situations. For this reason, they always remain motivated despite the ensuing challenges. On a similar note, such leaders maintain the team morale of their employees, even in cases where the business is crippling. In a nutshell, good leaders are well aware of setbacks that are eminent across various environments. As such, they understand the need to remain true to the business goals and “keep going” even when challenges may seem unbearable.
In my opinion, I am a good leaders because I poses some of the desired leadership qualities described above. As an example, I am always committed to my objectives and nothing can stop me from attaining them. With regards to this, I remain true to my goals aligned with the need to excel in my academic matters. In addition, I understand the need for flexibility in the leadership realm. As such, I am flexible and can adopt to any ensuing trends. As an example, the contemporary society has experienced a significant rise in the use of technological innovations. I have trained myself on how to utilize such technological innovations; hence, I can fit well in the current society that is characterized by immense use of such innovations. Overall, I have adequate leadership skills in that I understand the need for success as a measure of an individual’s leadership prowess.
