Ethics and leadership
1. Why are judgments about ethical leadership important when different stakeholders are likely to view situations differently?
Ethics offer the middle grounds i.e. standards upon which different judgments can be assessed, and the best possible alternative chosen. Different views are critical in a group or organization, as opposed to when decisions are left to a single stakeholder and the existence of standards helps organization to instill a sense of democracy by allowing all the stakeholders to equally participate in decision making, without feeling their views are ignored. Ethical judgments effectively allow diversity in opinions without necessarily descending into anarchy because of a lack of consensus in the views advanced, (John, 2004).
2. Discuss. Efforts to balance competing values and interests involve subjective judgments about rights, accountability, due process and social relationships (page 333).
In an organization, it may happen that values and interests of various parts are competing. In this case, skewed judgments concerning rights, accountability social relationship as well as due process is inevitable. It is obvious that individuals will never have common view points concerning any issue. Therefore, in some cases leaders are forced to make decisions in favor of certain view points, depending on the expected outcomes, (Gary, 2008. pg 333-36). For instance, if the interests of given individuals in contrary with those of the organization, the leader may be forced to make decisions that may be against such individuals in favor of those of the organizations. Precisely, decisions about the rights, accountability as well as due process depend on circumstances and sometimes leaders need to compromise with certain issues in order to balance competing values and interests.
3. Discuss the success of a team depends in part on its capacity to learn from experience. Comment on how this leaning might occur
Teamwork plays a significant role for the success of a team. Members of a team have a lot in common and it is only when they work together as a team that they can be able to succeed. One way in which team members gain experience is through knowledge sharing. When individuals work as a team, they are able to learn from one another. Thus, those who have knowledge on something, because of the close relationship they have with their colleagues, are ready to share what they know. Besides, leadership in a team has a great impact on members of a team. Usually, leaders play a mentorship role which helps their followers to expand their knowledge, (Gary, 2008. pg 356-62).
