Mental disorder or mental illness is not well thought-out as a standard growth of human kind. There are various kinds of mental disorders like the Depressive disorder, Dysthymia, Bipolar disorder, Schizophrenia, Sexual disorder, Anxiety disorder, Eating disorder and many more. The mental disorder is common in America and other continents. Among college students 46 percent had at least one mental disorder in the past twelve months (Mcnally 7). Depressive disorder is the toughest disorder to cure as it comes and goes frequently and therapists find it hard to diagnose. Most of the mental disorders can be cured; however treating a mental illness takes a long time to cure as the therapist takes a long time to find the right medication. My goal in this paper is to describe the two pictures which were observed in my psychology lab, and provide my opinion on these pictures.
In the first picture, I see a person who has his body completely tattooed with various kinds of pictures and designs. A small tattoo on the skin can be made for various reasons, it can be done to express your feelings, or to honor someone, or to remember a special event that occurred in your life, or even just for fun. This can be considered a normal behavior as the small tattoo is considered as a mark on the skin; however if someone is getting their whole skin tattooed, it depicts that the person is abnormal and wants to be unique in the society. Many senior citizens or our parents may totally disagree to the concept of getting tattooed on the whole skin. The man in in the picture is also trying to insert a sword in his mouth which is a quite dangerous act. He might be performing this act to attract the spectators, and he is quite unaware that this act can cost him his life if the sword does not fit in his mouth as practiced. This is an abnormal behavior as he is trying to jeopardize his life by performing unusual stunts. These kinds of stunts make an impression on the spectator that the person is quite abnormal and has some mental disorder.
In the second picture, two friends are playing with each other, where one person is trying to suffocate the other person, and the person who is being suffocated is enjoying the play and looks happy. Both of them in the picture seem to be happy on what they are doing. This kind of play can be quite dangerous as they are playing without being conscious of the results that could happen if something goes wrong during suffocation. The person who is suffocating the other person may have a disorder that is about to begin in him, and it must be treated before there are any heart breaking consequences.
This kind of abnormal behavior cannot be treated by the social and cultural groups. If the people in the two pictures mentioned above do not have any disorders and if they are considered to be normal people, then they are getting inclined to some kind of disorder that makes them behave abnormally and acting according to the signals sent by their mind, which they assume to be true. The mind must be controlled to behave normally in all circumstances. I believe that everyone is a little crazy, as sometimes; some people may be in a frame of mind to hurt themselves, or others. When I am low on self-esteem or mad at someone, I scream out loudly where no one can hear me, or indulge myself in cleaning my room until I feel relaxed. This behavior of mine does not harm anyone, like the people in the pictures who scare their viewers. Life teaches us the various lessons in a harsh way and provides experiences when we involve ourselves in the social culture. We learn the rules of life in a normal and simple way.
