The recent incidence that took place in Ferguson Missouri, where a United States police officer, from the Ferguson Police department, shot dead an eighteen-year-old teen, by the name of Michael Brown, under unclear circumstances. According to the police, Michael Brown was shot in Ferguson is a city in St. Louis County, Missouri. The witness interviewed said that, Brown and his Friend Dorian were taking a walk in the middle of the street when a police officer drove up to then and asked them to walk on the sidewall instead of the street. An argument ensued between Brown and Dorian, and the police officer, Officer Wilson which prompted him to take out his gun and proceed to shot in the air. This made Michael and Dorian flee for their live both taking different routes. The police officer got out of the police car in pursuit of Michael. After a while, several shots were heard. According to police reports, a total of twelve rounds were fired. Seven of which hit Michael and led to his death.
Following this fatal incident, demonstrations and civil disorder have been continuously going on since the incidence. Protestants on the street are out for blood claiming discrimination by the police force and demand swift justice is taken on Officer Wilson for the death of Michael. Even after the resignation of Officer Wilson, the public is still not satisfied with the simple resignation. The demand the police officer is put behind bars and face criminal charges for the murder of Michael. Along with the otherwise peaceful demonstrations, the larger population in this area comprises of African Americans. To show solidarity, they wear black clothes with banners carrying a variety of messages. The message today, is a warning to the government that, they will not remain silent unless justice is served for the wrongful death of Michael and Officer Wilson is put in jail. The community is furious at how the police department is handling the whole issue. The situation escalated further after it was revealed that the grand board had made a decision not to indict Officer Wilson.
According to the United States Department of Justice, there is a little concern on the issue of the shooting and see no reason why Officer should be arrested and charge as he was only doing his job. The department believes that there isn’t enough evidence to show misconduct or discrimination by Officer Wilson. In the professional’s opinion, they claim that the police officer should be arrested, charged and taken to court as the civil unrest has spread across the country. The messages on the banners like “black lives matter, united we stand divided we fall, unarmed civilian” show the extent of anger the community and the country at large harbor for the lack of justice for the murder of Michael.
The people in the community after the announcement that no repercussions would fall on Officer Wilson, matched to Ferguson Police Department where they paralyzed traffic while singing and making noise. They did not care much that the officer had resigned as they perceived that justice had not been served. What made the crowd angry was the fact that, after the shooting, the police officer went in to hiding for several months without any public statements. The protestors wanted the head of the department to address them and give them an explanation as to why the police officer cannot be judged for murder. As the police tried to disperse them, they all lay down in protest. The demonstration outside the police department went on though the night with the crowd relentlessly for the prosecution of Officer Wilson for the brutal murder of Michael Brown.
