Baby Boomers
A baby boomer is someone who was born between the year 1946 and 1964. This term was used to describe the large number of births which occurred after the Second World War ended in 1945 (Harrison, 12). Baby boomers that are famous include:
Angela Merkel- She was born on 17th July, 1954 in Germany and is currently the Chancellor of Germany. She has also been named the most powerful woman in the world by the Forbes list between the years 2006 to 2009.
Osama bin Laden: He was born in March, 1957 and died in 2011. He was an infamous terrorist known to be involved in the planning of terror attacks globally.
Oprah Winfrey- She was born in January, 1954 and is a famous television host, philanthropist, and actress. According to various assessments, she has been ranked one of the richest Black Americans of the twentieth century.
Al Gore: He was born in March, 1948 and served as a vice president under President Bill Clinton.
Princess Diana- She was born in July, 1961 but died in August 1997. She was the Princess of Wales and was the first wife of Prince Charles of Wales.
Generation Xers
Generation X was born after the baby boomers, between the 1965 up to 1976 (Indiana University, 3). Famous Gen Xers include:
Charlie Sheen: He was born in September 1965, is a television actor of worldwide repute.
Andre Agassi- He was born in April, 1970 and successful retired American tennis player. He is considered by some critics amongst the greatest professional tennis players.
Chris Rock- He was born in February 1965 and is a famous comedian in America. In addition, he is also a director, producer, and actor.
Mike Tyson-He was born in June 1966 and is a retired boxer who was a champion (undisputed), in the heavyweight category throughout his career.
Wuer Kaixi: He was born in February 1968 in China and was a student leader who led the famous Tiananmen Protests that occurred in 1989
Millenials
Millenials are also called the next generation and are born between 1977 and 1994 (Thiefoldt and Sheen, 2). This generation is best characterized by the impressive technological advances and adoption. Famous millenials include:
Prince William: He was born in June in 1982 and is the Duke of Cambridge. He was the eldest child of the late Princess Diana.
Dwayne Wade: He was born in January, 1982 and is a basketball player (professional) and an accomplished sportsman who worn the Sportsman of the Year, 2006.
Sarah Hughes: She was born in 1985 and is a figure skater who won the 2002 Olympic gold medal.
Prince Harry- He was born in 1984 and is the younger brother of Prince William.
Jessica Lynch- She was born in 1983 and she was an American soldier who was unfortunately captured in Iraq in March 2003 but was rescued in April.
Events which Characterized the Millenial Generation
Massacre at Columbine High School- This took place in April, 1997 in Columbine. This massacre was carried out by two students killing a teacher and twelve students. This event sparked much heated debate about the American youth, their cultures, and subcultures and by the influence of media on them.
September 11th, 2001- On this day, terrorists hijacked four passenger airliners and crashed them: two were crashed into the Twin Towers in New York; another into The Pentagon in Washington D.C.; and a fourth into a field in Pennsylvania. This caused horrific loss of life and changed the lives of Americans as the US responded by declaring the ‘War on Terror’.
