Introduction:
The process of harvesting honey is usually a dangerous and risky one. It involves displacing bees, which are honey making insects for some time to get enough space for the harvester to collect the honey. When the harvester is done, the bees return to their hives. Sometimes, this process involves, a lot of challenges like being stung by bees causing the infliction of sharp pain.
Such like scenario was witnessed one afternoon after students identified a hive with a swarm of bees in a nearby tree. Due to their mediocrity, they had to inform two brave men who according to them were courageous enough to harvest honey from those bees. Due to the natural sweetness of honey and since it is believed to be a fine curative against diseases, those men were really eager to taste honey. That was not easy for them since the process they were getting themselves into, was quite a risky one.
After lowering the hive, no sooner had they started harvesting honey, than bees started flying curiously stinging them repeatedly. As those two men were being stung, they were helplessly weeping loudly. All this while, a farmer who was a neighbor to the school was watching the whole incident through the window of his house. After the two men were being stung, the farmer, together with his children, came to their rescue. They covered their heads well to an extent, that it could be impossible for any bee to penetrate and bite any of them. The farmer together with his boys immediately covered the two casualties who were adversely stung on their faces and fled them to safety and after giving them first aid, they rushed them to the hospital where they were treated and discharged later after being confirmed to be out of danger. Unfortunately, the farmer’s child was in another room at home where he ignorantly opened the window. Not knowingly, he started grabbing bees with his bare hands through the window. The most unfortunate thing was that, this innocent child did not know that bees could sting and that, the sting was poisonous which could lead to loss of lives.
As the farmer was coming back from the rescue mission together with his two other sons, no sooner had he stepped foot in his compound than he had his child crying for help. They both rushed there and luckily, there were only few bees where one of them had stung the kid. They easily managed to soothe the pain and the kid who had started to have a fever, calmed down.
In a colony of bees’ colonies, there is an existence of three types of bees. These are; the queen, which is usually one, the drones and the workers. The queen’s responsibility is laying eggs and ensuring continuity of the colonies, while the drone bees have the responsibility of fertilizing eggs. The workers, who form the largest percentage of the bees’ population or swam, are responsible for ensuring the hive’s warmth, and they also have the responsibility to provide protection to the queen and the colony collectively. The worker bee’s duty is to collect nectar from flowers. This nectar is used to make honey.
Conclusion:
It is imperative to acknowledge the core aspect value here that honey is not only sweet, but also a form of medicine. Honey is curative as well as preventive towards multiple of diseases. When we compare our current generation with our ancestor’s, there is a huge difference since our ancestors used honey which boosted their body immune systems as compared to nowadays where chemicals have played a major role in shortening our life spans. Lastly, it is of paramount importance for only the people who are qualified to collect or harvest honey. Since bees sting, instructions should be taken into consideration to avoid deaths and injuries.
