Health management
Chapter 16 addresses health issues in Canada, Sweden, United States, Norway, and UK. According to the chapter, the provision of healthcares services in these states involves three issues; the first the government and other organizations proves the necessary resources to facilitate provision of the health services. Second, it involves the government setting policies to facilitate provision of the services. Finally, the healthcare centers and the professionals are put in place to provide the healthcare services to the citizens.
According to the chapter, the author argues that the government policies influence the provision of health care services. The government is responsible for setting the targets of the provision of health care services and then provides the resources to implement these targets. Therefore, the government in place is important in determining the provision of the health care services.
The commitment to implement the healthcare policies is an important factor in ensuring that citizens receive the best services. According to the chapter, Canada and the unites states have the best policies aimed at ensuring equality in provision of healthcare facilities, ensuring quality health care services in the economy and ensuring that all people have insurance cover to guarantee provision of health care services. However, these countries have not achieved these objectives due to lack of commitment by the government policy makers.
The procedure of ensuring that health is available to the people involves formulating the targets, which is done by the policy makers in a country. The next step is allocating the necessary resources and then supervising the implementation of the targets.
The chapter makes concludes that the political ideology in an economy influences the provision of health care services. In capitalist economies, resources are allocated by the market forces whereby individual benefits are prioritized. This is why the provision of health services in countries such as Canada and United States has remained poor. In communist countries, resources are allocated to ensure the benefit of the majority. This is why these countries have ended up having best healthcare systems. The author concludes by arguing that the provision of health care services should not be left in the hands of private sectors since it will lead to low quality of services to the society.
