Introduction
No matter where we go, what we do, and whom we meet, no one knows in life what will happen to whom and when. These situations and circumstances are unpredictable. In the present scenario, there are occasions when circumstances are really threating and challenging. This kind of threating phenomenon causes damages to the property and loss of life of people and other living species. This situation occurs in a given time in a specific region. It is generally beyond the control of the people and the reaction time is very less to counter the emerging challenges this destructive impact. This devastative influence on people and property is “Disaster.”
Body
Disaster is mainly of two types that are caused by “Nature” and “Human.” The natural disasters are famine, flood, fire, earthquake, dust storm, avalanches, landslides, and many more. On the other hand, there are human-made crisis situations such as chemical and nuclear explosion, bomb blast, war, and so on. These calamities are sudden that catch ourselves generally unprepared for the emerging challenges. Of late, the concept of disaster has begun grabbing the attention of one and all in all the department of our life. Naturally, the ultimate aim of those involved in the discussion would be to combat the menace of disaster and take preventive measures to mitigate its disastrous impact on our life and resources. Therefore, people who are actively involved in this situation hold a great significance in countering the evolving dangers to the life and properties.
Though it is true that total prevention is very difficult, preventions and precautions can play a key role in reducing the loss of life and the damage to the properties. While performing the duties as disaster workers, it is important to save not only the people but also our environment by causing minimum possible damage to the living beings and resources. During this scenario of disasters, any worker has to undergo different phases that demand critical approach, quick reaction, sound process of rehabilitation, reduction of risk, and finally, preparation for any future eventualities.
In view of these facts of requirements during the different phases of disasters, some of guidelines for disaster management professional or workers for strict implementation and compliance are:
a) Take care of own safety and security during performance of crisis management.
b) Maintain cool and calm composure and never become panicky.
c) Try to respond to the emerging situation.
d) Maintain guidelines that have a standard operating procedure, and be in constant contact with Emergency Operation Center (EOC).
e) Be aware of the contact numbers of ambulances, police officials, doctors, and fire station.
f) Identify the nature of disasters and react accordingly.
g) First of all, try to save the life of people and then go for saving property.
h) Keep all the required safety and evacuating equipment in serviceable condition.
i) Report all the details to your supervisors for any help or resources quickly.
Conclusion
In the light of the aforesaid facts and analyses of preventive measures and responsibilities of disaster workers, it can be, undoubtedly, assumed that there is a great need to take preventive measures in our life to help others during the time of crisis. Any kinds of panicky are really an unjustifiable and unacceptable. In addition, it is necessary for all the people to explore all the possible options to prepare themselves to face the challenges of disaster and its quality management. This action will help in building a society and world with a humane face that is deeply concerned with safety, security, health, and life of people and property, and contribute in some ways to establish a happy, progressive, and safe environment in our life.
