- Humanity
One of the most essential things to note concerning these immigrants is the fact that they mostly move into the United States in search of asylum or a place to live, due to poor living conditions in their home or native countries, characterized by economical, socio-cultural and even political challenges. In this case, therefore, these immigrants should be received and treated with love, respect and most of all, humanity, in order to assist them tin coping with the changes, especially from a cultural, as well as an authority perspective. Essentially, it should be noted that the first impression that a person gets concerning something highly affects how they will coexist with it. In this case, therefore, good reception will lead to fast and effective settling of the immigrants, which will give them room for growth and fast settlement, and this will positively contribute to the country’s various areas, such as economy, since they will be more willing to give back to the country by working hard, instead of being involved in other activities and aspects, such as criminal activities. The first impression that the immigrants get, therefore, will directly or indirectly affect how productive they will be in the country, in the consequent years (Leibman 44).
- Respect
It’s the responsibility of the United States Immigration and Naturalization Services to treat the immigrants moving into the United States with respect, as required by various legislations governing immigration and treatment of refugees, by the international organizations, such as the United Nations. The same is advocated for and set as a requirement by the United States civil rights. With respectful treatment, this will go a long way in doing away with various social and intellectual vices, such as discrimination based on ethnic, racial, religious, socio-cultural and economic backgrounds, among other lines that might be drawn against the immigrants, and used as aspects of discrimination against them. This is one of the main tools that lacked during the nineteenth and twentieth century immigration, and consequently, one of the major challenges that both the immigrants and the immigration services faced. With poor treatment, for example, the immigrants were not willing to cooperate with both the immigration service staff, as well as the American government. This is one of the reasons and causes that have led to lack of cooperation between various parties, as drawn in the line of political, socio-cultural and even ethnic and racial lines (Martin 116).
- Assistance
Assistance is one of the aspects that the immigrants faced in the United States, as they sought asylum and a place to live. This is an essential thing that should be put into consideration, and that the United States Immigration and Naturalization Services have not fully put in place. This is one of the reasons why some of the people who have sought asylum here in the United States cannot go back to their homes even after legally coming into the United States, as a result of lack of travel documents. In this case, therefore, the United States Immigration and Naturalization Services should work hand in hand with the immigrants, to ensure that they get their refugee travel documents, adjustment of status, work authorization, TPS, guide them in how to apply for family-based visa petitions and application for green card in asylum cases, amongst other activities and exercises that the immigrants will have to go through, for them to legally settle in the United States (Leibman 89).
Immigrants’ responsibility
In my opinion, on the other hand, it is necessary that the immigrants show cooperation with the United States Immigration and Naturalization Services, acknowledging the fact that they are being assisted, and that it is indeed, a privilege for them to settle, work and educate themselves in the United States, considering the fact that many other people would wish to settle in the country. When both of these parties play their roles and put these aspects into consideration, it will be easy for them to finish up with the settlement and immigration exercise within the shortest possible time, and as a result, they are in a better position to not only legally settle in the United States, but also adapt to the new culture, for example, through acquisition of decent jobs, decent salaries and even decent education, which is necessary in one’s contribution towards the development of the United States. This way, the immigrants will be able to settle in the United States as assets, and not as liabilities (Mendoza 56). In my opinion, illegal immigrants should receive the same treatment too, as long as they cooperate with the immigration services.
