With the global recession and the prevailing hard economic times in a global scene the world is set to experience major problems of unemployment in the country. The rise of population growths and the decrease in the number of production ability of some companies and industries has resulted to a serious problem of unemployment in the world. Garcilazo & Corredera (2006) notes that the most affected regions are those of the third world countries where the problem of unemployment has reached an exacerbating level. This he notes is complicated through the advent of many problems ranging from social issues to demographic distribution and lack of proper mechanisms of production and economic propagation.
Unemployment has been a very huge problem affecting the society in the current economy. Garcilazo &Corredera (2006) observe that most social ills and problems are caused by the rising number of unemployment cases in the global consideration. Social ills are a major headache to the normative functioning of countries. Therefore this poses as a great problem that if not checked may lead to a collapse of fabrics of the society. It is therefore a valid problem that will form the basis of the argument adopted in this essay.
There are a number of solutions that have been advanced by several scholars in the social studies. For instance Hornstein & Lubik (2010) argue that the problem of unemployment begins with the mind-set of the leadership in a country. He therefore proposes that for change and restitution of the situation to be effected, the countries’ leadership needs to be elevated to greater levels. The need for expansion in the industrialisation capacity and ramifications of different capacities of the country needs to be stepped up in order to ensure that more employment opportunities are available to the people (Garcilazo & Corredera, 2006). With new methods of planning and global partnerships from different parts of the globe there will be an increase in the number of jobs. Commons (2009) observes that it is the policy adopted by country in terms of the labour following and specifications that are legalized of the country that affect how business is conducted in the country. There needs to be more structural adjustments in the different structures of the country. For instance, the education sector can be enhanced through research and sponsorships of the technological innovations and inventions that will lead to more advanced methods of production. Garcilazo & Corredera (2006) points out that this will create more employment opportunities for the innovators and the new inventions will continue to create employment opportunities. The incorporation of the private stakeholders and increased investment infrastructure, agriculture and other fields such as tourism will increase the chances of developing more careers. McGuire & Hutchings (2007) develops that the government should motivate its youth and populace on different methods of investments and being innovative. This will increase the development of new jobs.
Garcilazo & Corredera (2006) observe that encouragement of foreign investments in the country also helps solve the problem of investment. Foreign investments in a country are speculated to add to the level of development in a country. Dehart (2002) argues that with increased foreign investment, the country adds to the national GDP and hence the economic backbone is strengthened. This makes it easy for the country to support more human resource, meaning that the problem of unemployment will be reduced to some extent.
Commons (2009) develops a philosophical thought based in the capitalist view on the economy and the working of a nation. Commons (2009) argues that according to Marx, under the capitalist way of governance and business transaction, the capitalist system is based on the exploitation of profitability. Therefore the capitalist will tend to have a leaning towards maximization of the potential of production (Garcilazo Corredera, 2006). The capitalists have been observed to utilize all the slightest methods under their disposal so as to oversee the production of great profits. Marx noted that in moments of depression and recession, the capitalist may lack to invest unless the opportunity of investing in potential returns appears. The reluctance to invest due to lack of a potential to develop a profitable business is discussed under what Marx calls ‘hoarding’. Marx notes that hoarding is responsible for creating the problem of unemployment in the world today. Dehart (2002) claims that under the competition for market, the capitalist market will continue to utilize the available resources and reduce the costs of production. The human resource and the machineries that are in normal functioning may therefore be reduced in the process of cutting down the cost of production. Marx notes that this forms the start of unemployment issues in the country. The solution as advanced by Marx will therefore be pegged on the government’s control in the nature of involvement. There needs to be control of the resources and the vehicles of production in a country. Companies and other stakeholders who flout the rules of production in the need to optimize production should be blocked and proper procedures of production be utilized. Adequacy of employees and creation of channels of working should be maintained at relevant scale while at the same time maintaining profitability in any nature of production. This will maintain the level of turnover and thus unemployment will be eased on a leveraged scale.
Martin Luther King Jr. is revered for his momentous fight against racial injustice and inequality of in all aspects of life. McGuire & Hutchings (2007) note that although King brought a quick semblance and sanity in the treatment of blacks and other races in America, there still arises cases of inequality in the global consideration. The unemployment problem is one such area where inequality and denial of chance of service continues to manifest. The unemployment may stem from the denial phase of people, where members are denied access to jobs due to some predetermined specifications. Webmaster (2012) notes that the problem of unemployment is created by such denials and prejudiced allocations ending up segregating certain people to frontiers of economic debunk. The isolation leads to injustices and inequality thus creating an imbalanced society.
King advances that for the problem of injustice to be realized, all the Americans and people of the world should learn to view themselves as one. There should be no colour markings on people or any bias and prejudice in allocating jobs. Discrimination is a backward practice that only serves the role of creating disharmony and imbalance in the society. King argues that judgement should be based on content and the rightful merit rather on racial or any demarcations that may deny one the chance of service. Unemployment therefore should be tackled with a close following of maintaining justice and equality.
Evaluations and counter-arguments of the solutions
Just as Marx argues in his capitalist view on the causes of unemployment and the solution that should be advanced, Hornstein & Lubik (2010) observes that unemployment is not a one-sided approach problem. It is rather a problem that should be followed thoroughly by involving the whole society. Marx proposition is on the solution s of the problem is adequately placed but the role of tackling the problem of unemployment should not only be left on the state but through individualistic take. The individual should therefore be involved in the fight of this menace. Hornstein & Lubik (2010) asserts that unemployment should be tackled from multiplicity of angles. There should be involvement of different stakeholders and the modes of production that is adopted by different production channels should be in a way that it develops the human capacity and increase on the creation of employment. The capitalist should therefore not be limited to one particular way of doing things. Diversification in the process of production will ensure that there are expansions in the production ability of the company of operation thereby increasing the employment potentials. Marx is thus rightful in context in his assertion.
While Marx argues that the modes of operation should not be owned by individual states who continue to utilize the public, King advances that the injustices and inequality that is exhibited in the work place should be dealt with utmost preference. Of great interest to note is the proposition that may be constructed of King’s proposition. While avoidance of bias and prejudice in according justice to all is the best practice, one cannot sacrifice quality at the expense of justice (McGuire & Hutchings, 2007). Justice and quality should be paired so that equality may result to a more cohesive state rather than a failing one. The state should therefore develop an approach that will give priority to justice in access of employment of opportunity without discriminating based on any nature. Marx on the other hand developed the periodical crisis approach where he claimed that crises are inevitable in an organization or country. For recovery, the state needs to undergo a process of recovery through expansion and resolution mechanism. On the contrary McGuire & Hutchings (2007) maintain that the country has the capacity to maintain the stability of the state of economy. This can be done through undertaking of investments that expand consumption and creation of more levels of employment. An approach of this sort will lead to a solution of the problems of the unemployment saga, thereby leading to more stable society.
Conclusion
Hornstein & Lubik (2010) holds that unemployment is serious challenge in the current society. Unlike the traditional society where man was supported by the nature of world and the relating ventures, the new globalisation and changes in the functioning of modern world has evoked with its own issues. Therefore if these issues are not prevented or solved, they will continue to affect the society leading chaos and fresh problems that inhibit normative functioning of the society. It is therefore mandatory that countries maintain justice and high functioning level in all efforts that are directed towards enhancing employment and equality in society. The root cause of social problems stems from the fact that unemployment especially in the ever-increasing population of human life is un-countered. If we need to achieve a stable country that is free from the atrocities of life and social issues as crime, we need to unanimously tackle the problem through more spirited efforts.
