Dear Honorable Denis A. Ross,
Re: Patient Protection Act: Immigrant Population
I am a resident of the 15th Congressional District of Colombia, which you duly represent at the legislative level. I am an immigrant citizen and since my first entrance into the USA I have lived within the 15th Congressional district if Colombia and thus I consider this my second home. I have worked in the social and health sectors for some time now and I feel that there has been significant progress in these sectors.
As you are aware, the H.R. 2688 (113th): PATIENT’s Health Care Act of 2013 has become an active law since you introduced it in the Congress on July 15th 2013 upon which it dialed through all the legislative processes. The main purpose of the law, as you had designed it was to increase the accessibility of health care services for all people especially on those care costs that are extremely high in matters cost (GovTrack., 2013). Through my personal experience as an immigrant, I feel that there are some aspects of the act that would serve better if amended. When I first came into the US, I had to incur very high costs to access care services simply because I was not covered by any social health scheme. At that time, I had no permanent job which is a usual phenomenon for most immigrants in their first few months of their arrival.
With this trend, it is my view that the Act in its current state fails to protect the immigrants in their first few months in the USA especially considering the legibility requirements to achieve health insurance cover (GovTrack., 2013). Within these considerations, I would like to petition you to consider initiating an amendment on this Act to cater for the immigrants who have no jobs; hence illegible for the high deductible health insurance plan and who have been forced to seek medical care in emergency rooms and urgent clinics which impose high costs even for care services that would have otherwise been significantly low.
Thank you for your time as well as the consideration of my request in this urgent matter. I will gladly appreciate your response.
Sincerely,
{Name}
