Journalism from time immemorial is known for gathering, meting out and dissemination of information to the target audience. Although, journalist have set codes of operation also known as ethical standards which include accuracy, truthfulness and objectivity. However, most the standards are often compromised while reporting. Looking at Coates understanding of journalism, one can astutely conclude that journalists are writers whose primary objective is to influence positive change in the society through writing thus helping solve the social problem. "The case for Reparation" is one work among Coates's work that substantiates his mentally towards journalism. Though Coates started writing due to life pressure, which was to provide for his child, as he argued it in the longhorn Podcast interview. With time Coates understood the role of journalism and tried much in his writings to deal with social hitches, Coates tried to project social glitches so as to let the society judge and come up with better solutions.

Best, on the other hand, has a contrasting opinion on journalism, unlike Coates, Best focus on the negativity of journalism. Best's work merely depicts journalist as pressurized fraternity, whose main objective is to lure the masses to read their work by all means even if the work is biased. Working under deadlines and trying to impress readers as far as possible, makes writers work to lack ideas and be more of entertainment as compared to the source the information was derived.

Best's work claims journalist have tight schedules and short deadlines; this compromises the ideology in their work. Writers are also depicted to be favoring some piece of work depending on some influential people or targeted audience. Coates contrast Best' ideas, in his work "The case for Reparation" He shows how a journalist has freedom to express ideas out the same freewill. Even though slavery was painful and worst historical mistake ever to happen, he still wrote about it warn the future generations and inspire the current generation.
