Listening is an important aspect in communication. This is because it enables a person to collect information effectively from the person conveying the message. Different people have various levels of listening. This means that there are people who have better listening skills than others. It is important to adopt good listening skills in order to capture all the information being communicated (Martin 9). Recently, people have been searching for better ways of listening to other people. At times, listening is difficult simply because one may lack the time and ability. Listening can only be possible for those who can hear. Many people in the journalism profession are of the idea that taking some break from their daily activities is important since it enhances the practice of effective listening. These people, among them commentators, think that there should be some space created for effective listening to take place.
I support these ideas since they enable the people mentioned to find time to listen attentively. Most of the times, these people are engaged with activities relating to their career. Other family issues are usually sorted out in a hurry. Some of the issues raised by their family members are not listened to. This, according to me, is not their fault. People working as writers are very engaged in writing essays and blogs for the public. They do this in the fastest way possible to avoid the risk of being sacked by the top management. They spare little time to listen to the information revolving in their social environment.
Creation of space from the daily activities is helpful to us. This action will help in improving interpersonal relationships in the social environment (William 10). During normal working days, one is very busy and does not find enough time to chat with other people in the society. Getting some time from work will therefore give a person the chance to listen to the information circulating in the society. During this time, he will have time to listen to the ideas of other people in the society. He will also have the advantage of listening to any information that may be important in the realization of his dreams.
Finding some space from the working routine also enables a person to increase his attention. During a normal working day, a person mainly uses the cell phone to communicate with other people (William 11). When he is extremely busy, he might communicate using text messages. Communication using text messages may not convey all the information needed. It is difficult to tell a certain story using text messages. Therefore the person should have a one on one communication with other people in order to be told all stories comprehensively.
Another advantage of creating time for listening is that it induces the asking of questions. There are times when the message conveyed is not clear. One on one communication with a person enables the listener to ask questions where the message was not clear (Martin 14). This kind of talk also enables the listener to broaden the discussion. He can do this by explaining his feelings towards the story that has been narrated. In addition, he can express amusement or excitement depending on the type of information that has been given to him. Good listening skills enable the listener to come up with an effective solution to any problem explained by an informer.
In conclusion, people should look for the suitable places that can enhance effective listening. In order to listen attentively, the environment should be quiet. This will prevent the listener from losing basic information that has been conveyed by the informer. In noisy places, listeners struggle to hear what is being said. The informer will also be forced to shout in order to be audible to his listeners. Finally, communication is important in all activities undertaken in the society. Therefore, people should practice good listening skills in order to enhance effective flow of information.
