Managing information technology
15. Data warehouse and operational files
One of the most essential things to note concerning every corporation is the fact that it has to keep track and history of all its operations, which assists in the analysis of the corporation’s performance, as well as its operations with the same. In this case, for instance, it is necessary to keep track of all the information, and develop a strategy through which the information will be stored and saved. Two of the strategies used in this case are data warehouse and database files. It is necessary to note that there is no difference between the data warehouse and these operational files, since they are both strategies that are used to store information concerning the corporation, especially, in its operations. According to Brown et. al, the only difference however is the fact that the data warehouses store both the present and past information concerning the corporation or organization, while the operational files are used to store information concerning the current operations. Therefore, the difference between the two is the type of information kept in the systems (2012).
16. Twisting of transmission lines
Transmission lines are one of the strategies through which corporations and organizations, through their IT department, conduct networking. Two lines are used are twisted together as one pair, and there are various reasons why the pair of wires is twisted together. Other than the fact that it is easy to identify any areas that might experience wear and tear when the two lines are intertwined together, one of the most essential things to note concerning the intertwining of these lines is the fact that this reduced the level of noise, in noise transmission for the corporation reduces noise signals. When the lines are twisted together, it reduces the amount of noise transmitted, making communication and conduction clearer. However, it should be noted that this does not completely eliminate it (Brown, et. al, 2012). Secondly, it is cost-effective, especially in the insulation of the lines, whereby, only one cover will cover the insulated wires. This is, especially, cost-effective when the wires cover a relatively long distance.
17. Three major techniques for identifying and selecting vendors for a project
- Technical skill and knowledge- It is necessary to select a vendor with the required knowledge concerning the project, in order to have maximum cooperation and effective task implementation. In the SDLC phase, this technique is used in the operation and maintenance phase.
- Financial obligation- The amount of finances that the corporation will spend on the vendors should be considered, and the SDLC phase to put into consideration in this case is operation and maintenance case, since the corporation will have to establish a way through which the corporation will maintain the corporation.
- Development of the best value approach- Both the vendor and the corporation should be productive and effective to the maximum in the carrying out of the project, and the SDLC phase to consider in this case is the system analysis phase, whereby, the system should ensuere effective carrying out of the project at task.
18. Differences between a data entity in structured techniques and an object in object-oriented techniques
The difference between data entity in structured techniques and object in object-oriented techniques is the fact that data entity in structured techniques exclusively stores the information needed in the corporation, while object in the object-oriented techniques exclusively produces the specific entity or entities that the technique seeks to achieve through the project, technique or strategy.
