Telephone service:
The quality of services is difficult to measure because it is not based on the physical attributes (Apte, Maglaras, and Pinedo, 2008; Schroeder, Goldstein, and Rungtusanatham, 2012). The performance of a service can only be measured by the response of customer about the service. In the evaluation of telephone service quality the customers are the main evaluator of the service because it is a real time action. The quality of telephone service can be measured by the evaluation of the following factors:
- Clarity of voice while telephone call.
- Distortion in call.
- The time taken to reach the voice to the receiving end.
Automobile repair:
Automobile repair shops are developed to provide the repairing services to those customers who are having problems in their vehicles. The evaluation of the automobile repair services are completely based on the response of the customers after getting the service. The customers respond that they consider the following factors:
- Time taken by the automobile to repair the vehicle.
- The quality of new auto parts that are replaced with the old auto parts.
- The quality of machinery that have been used to repair the vehicle.
- The procedure that is followed by the mechanic while repairing the vehicle.
Manufacture of ballpoint pens:
The evaluation in the category of product is done by evaluating the performance of the physical attributes of the product (Krajewski, Ritzman, & Malhorta, 2007; Schroeder, Goldstein, and Rungtusanatham, 2012). In the manufacturing of ballpoint, there are some important measurements that are evaluated by the ballpoint manufacturing company’s quality assurance department to maintain the quality standards.
- Quality of raw material of plastic used in the ballpoint.
- Quality of ink filled in the ballpoint.
- The darkness and lightness of color of the written material by the ballpoint.
- The clarity of the written material.
- The smoothness in writing.
Inspection by Variables and Inspection by Attributes
Filling packaged food containers to the proper weight:
The inspection of filling packaged food containers to the proper weight is done by its attributes when it gets completely packaged. After complete packaging the weight of the container will be measured to find out that it is according to the claim or not. If it has some variation or not meeting the set standard then corrective measures will be taken to remove the deviations.
Inspecting for defects in Yard goods:
The defects in the yard goods should be identified in the earlier stage of manufacturing to eliminate the amount of wastage in the production. The variable inspection will be used to make the correction at the most feasible time when almost complete elimination of wastage is possible.
Inspecting appliances for surface imperfections:
In the evaluation of surface of appliances the variable inspection technique will be used to find out the errors and deviation step by step. It is important to find out the error when it occurs and remove it at that particular stage to eliminate the wastage and reduce the cost of production. The product will be completely wasted if the error will be identified at the final stage.
Determining the sugar content of candy bars:
The inspection of the sugar content of candy bars will be conducted by the attribute inspection technique. The evaluation of the sugar content will be done when the candy will be ready to eat. The evaluation will take place in the final stage of production. So the procedure of manufacturing should be completely followed the standards that are set by the company.
