Compare and Contrast between the Three Articles 'Is Google making us Stupid?' (Core article), 'Mind over Mass Media' and 'Internet May be Changing Brains'.
Everyone loves Google! One of the principal reasons is that it delivers information within a second. Google delivers information that is useful for everyone. When one uses the search engine to search for information, Google provides the user with much information. Everyone who is computer literate widely use Google. Students, teachers, doctors, lawyers and engineers use Google engine to search for information in the internet. This evidently shows that Google is part of everyone’s’ life.
Most people emphasize that computers makes us dumb, and the existence of the internet, which led to the existence of Google makes future intelligent to decrease. Journalists and scientists work day and night to prove if Google makes someone stupid. Even though, Google helps one to get information in the internet, the question of one growing stupid when using Google is unanswered. Recent research proves that Google hampers one’s ability to remember information about recent researches he or she conducted and at the same time, Google improves some memory of retrieving information. Recent researches believe that Google makes the users dumb. Google enables the users search for information faster through the search engine. However, the ability of a user to use the information got from the Google search improves their skills and knowledge.
Scientists discovered that using the internet and Google distracts users. People think deeply when their minds are attentive and calm. This shows that Google makes people lose concentration, therefore: they do not think deeply when handling tasks. People lose concentration when using Google, hence they do not understand information about a research. This shows that we do not learn and remember information due to the distraction caused by using Google.
I feel that using Google makes the user stupid because search engines reroute the users’ memory making them spend time to look for informations. Researches prove that internet changes the way we remember things. Google makes users remember little information about the information they acquire from the search engine. Google enhances multitasking because the user engages in many distractions when using Google. Researches emphasize that multitasking deteriorates with time. Even though, the Web is a precious tool, spending a lot of time online affects the user’s concentration, therefore, causing a negative effect on the ability to think.
Researchers found out that the brain has a direct link with the Facebook friends a user interact with and their brains. The research found out that using social networks facilitates grey matter in the brain. Users that have several friends in Facebook spend a lot of time online. Spending time online makes the users lose concentration and waste a lot of time chatting with friends online. Research found out that the media is a source of distraction that makes the users lose concentration due to their much spending time on the social networks. It is evident that Facebook users with few friends spent little time on social sites compared to users who had several friends. This shows that users of Facebook spend a lot of time hence losing concentration. When they lose concentration, their thinking ability reduces.
Using internet makes users brains develop to adapt to challenges posed by social media. This affects the brain such that the user cannot do without social sites because the users get addicted to the sites. Their concentration reduces for spending a lot of time in the internet. Research personnel advise internet uses to spend a little time on the internet to enable the user develop their mind and thinking capabilities.
The brain takes the amount of electronic media it can consume. Electronic information has made the users develop addictive habit of the internet. Most internet users find hard to stop using the internet even when they are not researching or working online. Some users prefer to stay logged in their computers and their phones, leading to wastage of time. This reduces their concentration because they spend and waste a lot of time on the social networks. Scientists’ advice that, internet users to adopt self-control habits to avoid spending too much time in the internet and spare time for their thinking.
There is no contrast among the three articles. This is because they all involve the use of the internet and their consequences to the user are similar. Spending time to Google, use the social site like Facebook and using internet yield similar consequences, in that the user wastes a lot of time. The user waste a lot of time and loses a lot of concentration in the social networks. Scientists believe that users do not concentrate on their work while using the internet. This is because internet increases the rate of multitasking that makes the users lose attention on the activities they were doing and concentrate on the internet. This yields poor results on the internet because the he or she would not achieve their goal for research. Studies reveal that spending too much time on social sites like Facebook leads to developing grey matter and some part of the brain. Therefore, I think internet users must regulate the amount of time they dedicate to the internet. When they adopt these measures, they will not spend a lot of time on the internet.
