People have different mindsets. Learning styles come in two main types which are fixed and growth mindsets. It has been proven that people with fixed mindset are believed to be intelligent. On the other hand however, they suffer from low self-esteem and therefore it becomes hard to develop their mindsets. These people feel dumb when faced with challenges and on reflecting on their personalities, they lack the spirit required in challenging victory. In addition, they depend on their past success without thinking of their future success. However, it is worth noting that intelligence can be achieved and developed through practice. Most of the intelligent people give themselves more than one trial to achieve best results. Normally, they have several options and method of achieving success in their work or project. Most essential is their ability to learn from their mistakes and try their best not to repeat the same and instead set their mind in better ways which help them develop their mindsets. This is called the growth mindset. It therefore falls that, while fixed mindset is an asset, growth mindset is the best learning style and the one I employ in my learning.
I have adequate experience in dealing with matters concerning mental growth which helps me understand different learning methods. As a result, I am better placed when facing difficulties and my own attitude on teaching myself. I have learnt so much from growth mindset especially patience. From it, I derived the potential to succeed by getting many chances to reach the highest level of mental development. According to my mindset, nothing is out of reach. However, this goes with working hard and smart. For example, in tandem, mindset growth should be consistent with development and one should not give up at any point. In case of mistakes, one should take it as a learning lesson which should be the case on daily bases. The more we try and practice, the more our brains develop. This knowledge changed my perception and I started working harder so that I could achieve my desires. However, this is a universal application that will help all of us to develop our mind and be smarter.
Growth mindset means doing something different from the normal to achieve my dreams. In realizing this however, I have to work hard and be determined rather than depending on empty attempts. For example, when I was a member of the soccer club, my dream was to play for the National Team of Kuwait. Consequently, I started going out for exercises twice a day and after perfecting my skills, it was not a surprise when I appeared at position twenty two to play for the Asian Cup. This proved to me that my determination and practice made it possible for me to realize my full potential and achieve my dreams the long-run. In my travel and relocation from my mother country to America, I came across success as well as challenges. In coming to America, I had to learn English and therefore I studied American Language Program for a year. Polishing my English was a necessity and thus topped my priority list. In so doing, I was further developing my mindset which has proved to be a valuable asset.
Everybody have their own learning styles and motivations; these two factors help us in achieving our goals. On my individual analysis, thinking is my learning style and it has motivated me to get information through studying many facts and theories. According to my learning style, I have to create important information and understand it carefully. In fact, I am always focused in class when instructors use teaching skills that demand learners to think and reason to provide answers to any kind of questions from the learnt topics. Furthermore, I believe that if I can organize my time well by allocating adequate time for the particular work, I can handle it and understand its concept exhaustively. Additionally, creating important points and outlines for a complex information or learning material is an essential part of learning. Different learning styles practice improves one’s ability to learn. For instance, if one does not understand a topic, they can form a study group that will help them understand the topic better. However, one can go through the topic on their own and achieve the same goal.
Learning styles helps one succeed in education and gather sufficient information. In my studying style and studying environment, I prefer studying in a room with normal temperature away from any type of noise such as music. This offers a peaceful environment that facilitates learning without disturbance. I organize my study room and ensure that my books, pens and additional papers, for taking rough notes, are in order and working condition. While studying, I re-read my notes before moving to the next chapter to refresh the chapter objectives. In my homework and assignments, I proofread it before submission to ensure that my work is well done and meets the task requirements. During the examination period, I opt to form study groups with my classmates which we share information and knowledge about the subject which helps me and my friends improve our grades and our general academic performance. However, at times I prefer to study alone for long hours especially when everybody is sound asleep. This makes me mentally comfortable and ready to study; a cup of coffee or two keeps me relaxed and warm for the study.
In conclusion, people with growth mindsets are intelligent and their brains are in a position to be developed through experience and practice. Their abilities can be better when exposed to learning activities. In so doing, they give themselves many chances to develop, achieve and be successful by never giving up for they know that mistakes and errors are for human. Nobody is perfect; nevertheless, learning from a mistake once and for all is very important in the success of an individual. On the other hand, fixed mindset is a hindrance to such achievement since lack of self-esteem incapacitates one in developing their mindset and confidence that will help them realize their dreams. I believe I am perfecting my growth mindset well using thinking learner’s style. In addition, I like to study with group of my classmates, who have different learning styles compared to mine because that helps me to share different thoughts and ideas from different brains. Motivation to learn should come from your ability to have many learning ways and get new information. I can confirm mindset helps me face any challenge without giving up and thus face every other challenge confidently. Lastly, it helps me in having big goals in my life and doing all the best to reach them at a high level.
