My favorite food – Pizza
Who hasn’t enjoyed eating food? If you are dining at home or eating out at your favorite restaurant with family and friends it is always a treat. I love to eat pepperoni pizza, it is my favorite. Just thinking about a large pepperoni pizza gives me an irresistible hunger that becomes painful in the stomach if I do not get my favorite food. On entering the restaurant the delicious, warm smell of dough and a million spices tickles the nostrils and sends finger-like sensors to the brain. Sitting and waiting is torture and the anticipation of biting into tender, juicy, meaty filling makes one feel like they are in heaven.
A large painting of a pizza so real makes a backdrop of the setting and one cannot help but wonder if it was deliberately placed there to make you work up an appetite for the meal. Gazing at the picture and inhaling the riotous smell coming from the kitchen make you salivate while your stomach and your brain compete for your attention. You cannot detach from the sound within the kitchen and the sound of the oven door opening and closing makes you wonder how much time has elapsed since you made your order and take your seat at the table. It is hard to engage in conversation because there is too much distraction and the brain is unable to engage in conversation while you savor the aroma and gaze with anticipation at the picture on the wall.
A large dough, puffy-brown around the edges and resembles a crown, sits with pride on a round platter fit only for a king. Hot from the oven, the bubbles still rising and shimmering from the heat, sets off a flavor that comes from the fresh ingredients so carefully selected and prepared. You want to dig in without a twinge of guilt, wanting to be the first to gobble the first slice and reach for a second. Fresh red tomatoes, outshining green and red jalapeno peppers among dark fleshy mushrooms, yellow-colored pineapples, steaming hot and dripping hot tangy juices. The smell of hot peppers, ruby-red Italian pasta sauce with a strong smell of basil is overpowering, giving the place a warm and welcoming feel.
Large triangular-like slices are held together with soft slightly brown and crispy cheese; mozzarella cheese, gooey and delicious so generously spread over a rich vegetable bed. Each slice of pizza is adorned with rich-red pepperoni rings the size of a quarter dollar. Beef or pork, its left to the eater’s preference. Each ring so thinly sliced is embedded in a soft juicy well- cooked crust and coated with melted cheese, the juices still sizzling from the heat of the oven. This large pizza, fit for a king, just waiting to add pleasure to its favorite lover. The separation of each crust reveals a soft buttery texture within, fluffy like clouds in a clear blue sky. Each bite leads to another and another, and soon there is only a crescent shape bit left to be consumed. This bit of crust so soft that it melts in the mouth while releasing a taste so exotic and unique. Each slice is like the next, never losing its flavor and giving greater satisfaction as it is consumed.
A lot of time and effort results in a well done pizza that brings satisfaction to the eater. Pizza can be classified as comfort food and can bring joy to any occasion. Each ingredient is so carefully selected and prepared and each pizza made is the only one of its kind. What makes a pepperoni pizza so special is the distinct taste of the ingredients; the tangy sweet taste of the sauce, the salty gooey feel of melted cheese, the crust so light, the mixture of colors, the smell of blended spices all sautéed to bring out its richness. A pizza is versatile and can be served up on any occasion be it a party or a lunch or dinner. The smell of pizza reminds me of an early morning walk through the neighbor-hood. From each house come the smell of freshly brewed coffee and the smell of fresh country crock butter on warm cinnamon bagel. It is that homely feel that you get from eating out on a weekend night.
