If a person hears the question “What is your lifelong dream?” the person may answer the question in a multitude of possibilities. The person might mention a career position he wants to achieve, what he want his family or future would be or just something he wishes to do when he’s all settled down in whatever he planned himself on doing and being contented. But as the years go by, we tend to change what we want to do in life because we either find the path too hard to achieve or one just grew out of it. For children, they have a different concept when it comes to this question. Their innocent and young minds would tell them to dream of a world where everything is at peace and everyone they meet and be with is happy and loved. Ironically so, even if a person say they grow out of their childhood dreams, there would still remain a sliver of that childhood dream in their new lifelong goal, no matter how well worded it is now. Now that I am asked regarding this question again, I could honestly say that my lifelong dream is to become a Human Resource Officer or Generalist.
Before I came to this conclusion into selecting this lifelong dream, I was also uncertain of what I want to become, what I want to do and what I want to achieve. When I was a child, I kept changing my dream career; whether to become a librarian or a teacher. I believed that I could help my family and make them happy if I achieved those goals. And of course, I thought it would be a lot of fun and something I can keep on doing. But like they say, your true calling can only be determined when that time comes. And that time really came when I browsed several jobs and courses I could take for college. I was fascinated when I came across the course in Adult Education and Training with a Bachelor’s Degree in Business, Major in Human Resources. At first I asked myself, what is Human Resource? What kind of course is that for? What job does it entail? Would I even get a job? I was quite interested in business already before I came across these course pamphlets but I have never come across the term up until now. So I researched for it and found out what it was. Human Resource Officers or Generalists are the ones responsible in organizing the company and the workforce. They are all-around employees depending on their company’s size and staff variety. But this occupation is very important for the company as he or she is responsible for developing policies on hiring and retaining employees for the company. They are also the people who take charge in making sure that they hire new employees that not only fit the criteria in the job description but would help the company grow. HROs are also in charge of guiding each departments and heads to watch over their employees and hone them in their craft. My curiosity was very intrigued by this and after a couple of extra classes in Human Resource, I found myself hooked in continuing this field, learning more about the craft and eventually making it my lifelong dream for my future.
As of today, I have already begun my preparations to begin my journey in fulfilling my lifelong dream in becoming a Human Resource Officer or Generalist. I already completed several foundation courses in Human Resource and even got a certification from Penn Foster Career College, certifying that I have finished the required courses. This would give me leverage when I apply for my first job in this particular field. I also enjoyed partaking in HR duties in my present work which made me more than eager to perform well and continue pursuing the field. Of course I also dream in finishing college and receive my Associate Bachelor Degrees in Adult Education and Business, concentrating in Human Resource. These degrees would not only help me in being one step towards my lifelong dream, but also a sense of fulfilment in my part due to all the hard work and time I have given just to achieve my lifelong dream. I know the road into being a full-fledged Human Resource Officer/Generalist is still far ahead, but I know deep inside my heart that this is the job I envision myself on doing in the future.
