I graduated with a GPA that was not good staring at. It all started in the first quarter when I used to get grades that were not any good at all. Yes, I knew that I had to do something worthwhile with my life, and further knew that getting such awful grades would never serve me with a platform to do the ‘something good’ that I had never given a serious thought. My dad warned me a thousand and one times about my lack of seriousness in school work, all in vain. However, towards the end the first quarter it dawned on me that I had wasted a lot of time in non-academic chores. Little did I an academically versatile individual with excellent learning abilities, an individual that only needed a small adjustment and could then be able to produce masterpieces from any learning situation. Came second quarter and I sharpened my act together. I started paying close attention to detail and achieved grades that I could show with a smile. My overall GPA has risen to 2.83. This was the right time to formulate personal goals, goals that I can only achieve if a get a lasting solution to my school fees tribulations, goals that I can only substantiate if I am granted this scholarship. As mentioned earlier, I formulated my career goals while in the second quarter. My aspiration according these goals was to become a leading business management consultant globally. I do not need to pursue this immediately since it was my long term goal. It follows that the scholarship will enable me complete my current course, a course that will act as my stepping stone to the business career.
As an aspiring business consultant, humanitarian and inspiration from Future Business Leaders of America, FBLA, I devote much of my time to serving the community. This I do through the church also individually. I have given the community over 150 hours of service ranging from supervising freshmen theatre classes to building houses in Vietnam for Habitat for Humanity. I derive much pleasure in visiting the elderly especially in their homes where I help them with duties ranging from sweeping, gardening and washing.
I had mentioned earlier that one of the underlying reasons behind my poor performance in the first quarter was due to over involvement in extra-curricular activities. I am playing rugby with the Shamrocks Rugby Team. I have also participated in the SCAD Inter-murals as part of the "Abusement Park" Dodgeball team. I base my prowess in the pitch on my strong determination in team work; an attribute that makes me a favorite of most of my team members.
In December 2010, my father, Suraj Mishra, lost his job as the CEO of Prudential, Malaysia. Currently he his overwhelmed by a plethora of expenses; upkeep of the family, paying tuition fees for my brother, who is studies at the University of Virginia, my mom recently delivered herself a baby girl. The overarching idea is that my dad has a lot of expenses that he can barely manage to finance my education. As at now I am at the verge of dropping from school due to my inability to pay school fees.
I am optimistic that I will be awarded this scholarship.
