When working with young people in the community, it is paramount individuals follow an ethical code of conduct. While there are several reasons for this, there are four primary reason that stand out above the rest. To begin, an ethical code of conduct helps define what the organization is attempting to accomplish with the youth, but also within the community. It also sets a standard toward which childcare workers can aspire to; this allows them to provide direction to youth in the process of helping them while setting clear objectives.
Secondly, minimum acceptable childcare standards are too often acceptable when working with youths in the community; an ethical code of conduct ends this, giving the employee guidance and setting the bar higher than average. Thirdly, the codes show employees what is acceptable in order for them to be considered ethical, but also professional in their field. In order for the organization to be taken seriously and for youths to prosper in whatever way the organization aims to help, the ethical codes must be adhered to.
Lastly, creating an ethical code allows childcare workers to begin forming a conceptual idea of what they aim to do as an organization. It is important to understand boundaries concerning how to act professional and ethically when working with children and ethical conduct can help one do this. Ethical codes of conduct can also help children involved in an organization understand how to interact with professionals in the organization, as well. Essentially, the codes keep everybody safe, while giving guidance and ensuring children and employees understand boundaries. They grant the organization a steady path and promise youths within the organization will understand what they are receiving help for.
