Characteristics of an Effective Follower
There is a saying that in order to be a good leader, one should also learn to be a good follower. However, being a follower encompasses significant characteristics that define their good nature. A good follower has to be responsible in such a way that they know how to handle the task given to them and show sense of responsibility. In addition, a good follower should be also be active autonomous in their behavior. Meaning, as a follower they should know all too well that being part of a team signifies cooperation. When it comes to being autonomous, followers should also keep in mind that critical thinking means being able to act in their capacity without crossing the line of being disrespectful and insubordinate. Furthermore, effective followers are valued most by their leaders because of their significant and active contribution to the organization. Doing things as they told does not demonstrate effectiveness because it encompasses following without critical thinking. Following orders must also demonstrate independent thinking, to critically analyze situations and act accordingly and appropriately.
Personal and Organizational Similarities
Various types of conflicts arise at certain point within a group whether personal or organizational. These conflicts emerge due to a variety of causes with factors attributed to the cause. Although, the factors and causes attributed to organizational and personal conflicts differ in nature, they too share some similarities. For instance, conflict in organizations involves goal differences, this means one’s objectives is the opposite of the other due to values and ethics, which is also regarded as factors in personal conflicts. Younger workers might have bigger chance of not going to work for no particular reason, but older employees tend to have a different perspective towards work, which is likely to spark a conflict
