Organizational behavior has profound impacts on groups, individuals, and the structures of an organization. The effects could be at macro and micro levels. I have learned that it takes deliberate efforts to be part of a team and solve problems objectively. In particular, it was evident that people have different capabilities among groups and, is is better if each one gets the most suitable role. For instance, some are good leaders while others are mobilizers, and problem solvers. If individuals play the roles they fit best; the team would likely be successful.
Moreover, I learned that organizational culture tends to be an aggregate of different cultures depending on the diversity of workers. Issues of cultural discrimination arise when there is a dominating culture, and the workforce fails to be sensitive to the minority. Those whose culture is not recognized may struggle to fit and in the process, their productivity may reduce significantly. I believe that every person should be sensitive to the social, cultural, and religious aspects of the team members and workmates. In this regard, I was careful not to offend group member during discussions and group work.
Besides, the role of proper communication skills is of paramount importance in organizational behavior. Communication may build up either upward or downward and affects the group behavior (Turkalj and Fosic, 35). Communication determines behavioral aspects because it is the way people understand each other. If there is a strict hierarchy, upward commutation gets filtered, and the core message may get distorted in the process. However, if the communication is formal primarily written, just as it was the case of official course contacts, there is little or no editing and consequently solving the problem of filtering. The course was an eye-opener on issues of team dynamics, roles of team members, communication, and problem-solving skills among others.
