Othello is one of the Shakespearean works which exhibit the themes of love and jealousy. It tells of a story in which Othello is a Moorish North African general who gets into a marriage with a Venetian woman Desdemona. Iago is another character in this piece of work that clearly spells out how jealousy is portrayed. According to Bradley, sexual jealousy comes with a sense of shame and humiliation and this is what makes it hidden. By internalizing it humans being to have a feeling of shame and will always want to avoid such occurrences. When this jealousy is exposed it stirs contempt and pity. Further, this jealousy according to him converts human nature to vary chaotic and brings out the animal in man. This feeling can be turned into a mixture feeling of longing and loathing and seeking for relief in bestial thirst for blood. The feelings of jealousy can make an individual to become jealous and resort to crime so as to satisfy their anger. Bell agrees with the fact that the chief subject of the play is sexual jealousy. The dramatic scenes rotate around how this feeling resembles a fatal disease which grows in the hero and completely destroys him. It robs him of his human nature and brings out the animal in him. As the script progresses this picture is clearly brought out on how he reacts towards his wife’s betrayal. In Faulkner’s ‘A rose for Emily,’ Emily falls in love with Homer whom she realizes is not attracted to her but to the male company of the town. In her attempt to keep him to herself, she poisons him. The townspeople are very jealous of her and they keep on gossiping about things that happened in her life
