I come from a family of three sisters, one brother and I plus my parents. I My family and I are from Saudi Arabia. At the time of travelling I was 20 years old but now I am 24 years old but although a number of years have passed, I still can recall most of what we did and I am going to share it with everyone.
It was in the summer of the year 2009 when my family and I finally decided to take us on a vacation to Paris the City of Love as the world also knows it. My father had previously talked about going to Paris but he was not that serious so he decided to surprise the whole family when he made that announcement in front of the whole family that quiet dinner night. As soon as he said that my heart was filled with enthusiasm and joy for Paris is a city I would love to go especially after hearing of the wonderful places and the friendly people from my friends who had travelled there a while ago. That morning father and mother really hurried us up since our flight from Dammam airport to Paris was scheduled to leave at around 9 am in the morning.
Sooner than later we left for the airport and in no time we were up in the sky headed for France. What a relief as my eyes rolled out due sheer excitement. My younger brother at that time, funny enough was scared because he has a fear of heights which was completely opposite to me. The flight took around 6 hours which relatively seemed long to me. At last we had finally arrived.
After our arrival we headed for the Hotel Le Bristol where we were to stay for a whole month. Everybody looked tired as we arrived at the hotel with mom carrying my little brother on her back as he had already fallen asleep. My sister was on her iPod always listening to whatever she liked that was when dad told her that those things are going to spoil her ears since they are so loud that the person next to her would hear what she was listening to. My eldest sister was helping dad unpack suit cases. My other two sisters were tired and lay on the bed relaxing playing with each other. As to me I just sat and waited for the adventure to begin. That evening we had dinner at the hotel while listening to French music which made us disturb our dad to translate since he was the only one who knew French and he knew it well. We were then decided to start exploring the area in the next couple of days.
In the first week we visited the Louvre Museum which is located at Paris’s heart in the large Louvre Palace. We saw a lot of art portraits and paintings ranging from Milo’s Venus to Samothrake’s Nike and even to the famous Mona Lisa by Leonardo da Vinci. We had to pass through each day at the museum since it was large and had so many interesting pieces of art. I remember at one time my younger sister being as cheeky as she was decided to wander off alone unaccompanied. This made everyone worried and we had to look for her for a whole hour only to find that she was with the museum curator having eaten like five cones of ice cream while playing with another kid. Whoops that was the scariest part of my life but at the same time it was unbelievable to see how happy she was. Things really work in mysterious ways! Below is the outside and interior of the Louvre museum.
At that same week we visited the Eiffel tower or as it is also called the Iron Lady. My dad came up with this idea of parachuting from the top of the tower since he thought it would be fun then my mom asked him if he was crazy enough to do it. Then it so happened that there was also this girl who also was visiting the tower and by chance or let me say fate, her bumped into each other. Her name is Alba. She was and still is beautiful, and when someone tells you that the French have pretty ladies you have to side on that because I was completely wowed. So we talked and when it came for us to leave I was not feeling like doing so which made my dad become angry but my mom calmed him down for I guess she understood the situation I was in. Alba and I still keep in touch. The Eiffel tower looks more beautiful at night than at day because of the lights glowing on it.
In the second week we visited the Shakespeare bookstore that is in Notre Dame. It contains most of Paris’s history in terms of literature. There our mum forced us to read a couple of books that really bored us. My little brother at one point became so tired that he sneaked out and went to play outside. My mom on seeing him outside threatened that he would not buy him crackles so he quickly came back and continued reading until we left. My mom kept on saying that although we came to have fun the trip should also be educational in some way and that was what she was giving us. What a long day it had been. We later on during the week visited the Montmartre cultural site that is on the outskirts of Paris a little bit on the hills. There we had a family picnic and ate lots of food.my siblings flew kites that at one point were carried away by the wind and eagles, which made some cry like my brother. He has this funny and sly crying face when he cries that makes everyone laugh. That area is nice for walks and is green all over. It made me feel at peace with nature and in a way I learnt to appreciate what nature gives us and conserve it for a better future, furthermore the earth needs more picnic places like those for laughing out loud!
Well in the third week we decided to hang around and just try out different foods. We went to this Arabian restaurant called Liza restaurant because we had missed eating the food back in Saudi Arabia. This at least reminded us of home and I just noticed how spicy what we eat back home is compared to the French foods. We also ate at another Japanese restaurant but what most of us liked the most is the French pizzas. They are yummy and I bet I can eat that straight for two weeks or rather less. My new buddy Thierry made some every week so I knew that every week I would get my weekly dose of pizza from him.
Well in the fourth week we mostly went shopping for things to take home. My mom and sisters went to almost every clothe and perfume line shops looking for anything nice. My dad, brother and I went around looking for vintage items since my father likes collecting them. He found a few like this 1920’s French lighter. I had a painting of me taken and it looked exactly like me. The guy Pierro who painted it is a good painter. My little brother got this French cap which he put on always. Later that week we visited Disney land and everybody got to meet their favorite Disney characters. I met mickey mouse and Donald duck. They are very funny characters. I think I almost cracked a rib laughing at their jokes. My brothers and sisters played in the place the whole day and became really exhausted. Two days later we started packing for home since we were running out of money to sustain the vacation even though we wanted to stay longer. We left for home a day later.
Paris was fun and nice besides it was even the first time I visited Europe and I would like to go back one day and spend some more time there. It is a beautiful city filled with true French spirit.
