Humankind tended to depict the life from the very beginning. The first objects of the cave art were made about 32,000 years ago. With the flow of time the art have been improved and nowadays people can boast of thousand famous artists and millions of paintings. But the invention of photograph influenced the society a lot. Before the first photo had been taken the only possibility to memorize the moment was the painting. But it was not the actual picture of a place or person. It was a subjective view of an artist.
The first photos made on the film were taken in 1830s (Gernsheim, 1986, p. 18). Since that time taking photos became one of the most popular hobbies in the world. Thus, it had changed the way people spend free time. Secondly, photos have historical value because they provide scientists with actual pictures since the middle of 19th century. Besides, photography changed the way people remember things and events. Earlier, person could rely only on his or her own memory but now photos which are usually kept at hand can remind the person every day of his or her life. Everything can be documented with photos.
Apart from personal changes, photography changed the society as well. It enabled the development of the marketing industry (Arens, Schaefer and Weigold, 2009, p.13). Without photos moderns advertisements would not be so bright and persuasive. Besides, photography influenced journalism. Not only the text but also the pictures became the vital elements of newspapers and magazines. Actually, the invention of photography provoked the appearing of a new profession: news photographer.
Finally, photography changed the art. On one hand, photography became the independent kind of art. On the other hand, artists started to use not only brushes, oils and pencils in their work but also photos. They are either incorporated in the painting or photo is made in a special artistic way.
Part 2. Discussion Question 2: Who owns the data?
The issue of privacy is one of the most urgent topics in the modern society. In the age of the Internet it becomes more and more complicated to hide something. Furthermore, in many cases people disclose their own private information of their own free will. One of the ways where people reveal their data is social networking. Social platforms such as Facebook become more and more popular and the database with millions of logins, passwords and e-mails is possessed by IT-specialists of this network (Lazarus, 2012). Of course, it is illegal to use such kinds of data by any worker of the organization. But nothing in the Internet can be protected from hackers attacks. Of course, access to e-mail does not guarantee the access to the full information about the person, his or her credits, insurance data, etc. But nowadays more and more data are sent through the electronic addresses not through usual mails. So, Facebook can be dangerous in case of the hackers’ attacks.
Another database, which contains huge amounts of personal information, is hospital base. When a person comes to the hospital he or she mentions information on their bank account, insurance and probably the number of credit card.
