My purpose in life is to become someone of value not only to myself but also to the society. I believe that a life lived for self is halfway complete since all of we all rely on those around us to achieve various things in life. It is so easy to keep all that we acquire in various stages of our lives to ourselves; however, my purpose in life is to share the knowledge and wealth I acquire in life with those around me. I should however point out that I do not do all these for heroism but rather out of an intrinsic motivation.
My ultimate personal goal is to be a better person each day than I was the previous day. I believe that life is a journey of experiences and learning stages; one weakness of most people is that they tend to learn and forget (Gunderman, 2008, p. 42). Hence if they meet such a situation a few years later, it’s a whole re-learning experience (Bartow, 2011, p. 56). My ultimate personal goal is to be that person who learns something and applies it in their lives.
My ultimate professional goal is to achieve a position of respect and influence in the medical field due to my hard work and research. I target to be the medical practitioner who is considered a valuable asset in whichever organization they work in. Some of my friends think I dream too much when I tell them I want to climb that corporate ladder in medicine both due to my hard work and also advancing in education. However, my argument is simple; I do not want to be that miserable retiree who wakes everyday of their retirement and knows they did not give it all.
I enjoy reading, travelling, making friends and anything that adds value to life and breaks its monotony. My reading passion is a valuable asset in my medical career. I love reading medical journals which help me keep up to date with emerging approaches in my profession (Dye, 2010, p. 38). Travelling is more of what I do when I want to relax; I love driving through the country and just enjoying the beauty of nature. It reminds me that everything looks good in its natural form and hence I am also good when I am being myself and not imitating others.
I make the most impact at home and at school; at school I love engaging in meaningful discussions on course topics. In most cases I end up been the discussion leader. Most of my fellow students feel that due to my reading culture I am well informed on diverse topics in the medical profession. I am also recognized as an impartial debate leader who is not afraid to change their stand when the facts are not on their side. At home, I impact by motivating my siblings and been a good role model. (Garnam & Dye, 2006, p. 11) I study hard to ensure that I am a good example and that I make my parents proud.
In my obituary, I would love it to be written; ‘came with nothing, left with nothing because he left it all to other people.’ I do not want to be the person who dies and the knowledge they had dies with them, I want to be the person who leaves it all behind to people who can build on it to improve people’s lives.
