There are three ways through which an artistic item can be studied and comprehended. An artistic object can be studied as an autonomous form constructed in accordance with its own systems and laws of relationships. Also, the same object can be studied as form fitting in to the intellectual history of a specific period. Or, the object can be studied in a form fitting to times past of its own kind. The complexity of architectural objects is attributed to its numerous forms: history and technology, art and science and, materials and symbolic forms. Architecture should be approached and read in terms of history. This is because every form of architecture posses history. Every architectural discovery implies inconsistency in time between construction and project.
The existence of architectural objects relies and relates to various objects. Architecture holds ideologies, effects and intentions that can be demonstrated through its history. The language of architecture has the aptitude of explaining space, time or complex concepts. The history of architecture continues to grow and develop as time passes. It basis rely on continuity. There are numerous approaches that constitute the history of architecture. These approaches hinder proper comprehension of architecture (XUE-cai 23). There is a possibility that architecture is made up of a large collection of languages scattered fragments and contradictions. These factors hinder the possibility of rational interpretation of architecture. It is important for historical analysis to take note of the language of architecture like style or building materials since it is a basic interpretative tool. Numerous levels of enquiries, such as architect’s work, texts and critic’s comments, should be applied in the studying any artistic object.
