Introduction
Wish you were here is the ninth song in the album by a group of pink Floyd of September 1975. The themes of absenteeism and business in the music industry and by extension the progressive rock category has been largely explored in the album pink Floyd. The song was released in early 1975 and was a big hit since then. It was the first of its type in the progressive rock history to feature in the stone magazine as among the 500 greatest albums of all time.
The song wish you were here was widely renowned and acted a favorite of the songs played and was a strong marketing of all in the album. Though it received mixed reactions and reviews in the media by funs of Syd Barret another fierce competitor in the progressive rock industry it remained a big hit and a darling to many. The theme that is overriding in the song and majority of the album is the conceptual theme and the long preamble in tribute to former big wig and member Syd Barret who left the band unconditionally on the account of mental breakdown. Thus wish you were here was a tribute by the band to the former member of the band whom they wished was with them (Waters, 1994 p.30).
The instrumentation was well organized that made it a big hit since its release in 1975. The used and feature of jazz on the music was well renowned and jazz violinist Stephanie Grappeli was the instrumentalist behind it all. The used of varying guitar tunes and violin made its recording a big buzz (Waters, 1994 p.20). The song was also a mixed feature of saxophone by Dick Parry and the final recording was glamour of the mixture and musical tentacles. The vocals for the hit wish you were here were also well organized and the lyrics well arranged. Though several versions of the songs were to appear latter in the market in the 1980’s nothing was comparable to the original hits of 1975.
The wish you were here hit was sold in elaborate packages under the pink Floyd album. Their reception in the market was well received and acclaimed as the trio made global tours to launch and promote their new album. In all this the song wish you were here was central as it was a hit of all pink Floyd albums. The choice of the pink cover album was as a result of the trending of colors in marketing following release of Roxy country music in an opaque green cover. Though the album was presented by an art less cover it was still appealing to the consumers. It was well received and such enthusiasm as well as the international tours and performances (EMI, 2004 p.23).
In conclusion the song wish you were here was a high hit lyric that was highly acclaimed. The song and the album is a tributary decoy of one of its members who was incapacitated.
