How would you define quality from the perspective of a student in JU’s MBA program? How might a faculty member define quality in the MBA program? Explain
It is hard to find a unique definition of quality as it is highly dependent on the expectations of the target audience. Therefore, the perspectives of faculty members and students on the quality of an MBA program may be quite different.
The quality of the JU’s MBA program according to students can be explained by a number of factors. Firstly, for students it is crucial that the knowledge and skills taught during the program are applicable and useful in the real world situations. As MBA programs aim to provide young professionals with the tools to improve the way they usually perform their job, it is important to limit the academic part of education and to focus on the applicability of theory in practice. Secondly, in the assessment of the quality of an MBA program students usually value the individualized approach to every student and the possibility to approach professors and staff easily. These factors are largely dependent on the class sizes and on the interaction in class both among students and with professors. Lastly, a quality MBA program has to have adequate facilities and possess modern technology, which would allow taking maximum advantage of the learning opportunities provided.
Although students’ and faculty members’ perceptions may overlap in certain areas, the general expectations from the program are surely different in these two categories. Thus, faculty members value the presence of modern technology and facilities in the university, as well as they probably enjoy smaller class sizes, which allow more interaction with students. However, they probably also expect the program to support their research and emphasize the academic side of the materials taught. Moreover, faculty members expect flexibility of the program and the possibility to adjust their curricula according to their understanding of the most important issues.
