Reflection paper
Introduction
Presenting may appear to be hard thing especially if your communication skills do not compliment a leader. Majority of us experience anxiety before and after presentation. This may happen because such individuals are yet to be coached on how to improve their communication skills in order for them to facility proper presentation in workplace or any other place where they may be given a task to present (Weismann 2009). Such situations occur especially if individuals are not psychologically prepared. In this paper, I am going to discuss some of the lessons learnt that I can relate to situations in real life and are discussed in the book, the art of telling a story by Weissman Jerry.
After the end of the seminar, there was a performance evaluation that was carried out with the aim rating view the outcomes of the seminar. There were teenagers who stated that the facilitator were not effective. Facilitators were not prepared to present to young people. Their skills and language was formal creating an environment that was effective to the teenager. This is common in our daily live, in school teaching is a form of presentation, which can be at time effective if the right language is used towards the right people. Lecturers ought to consider this factor while carrying on their lecturer classes in order to accommodate all type students. In referring this information to the cases of the Rowallan summer camp seminar with Weissman argument, communication techniques are based on knowledge and professionalism. Dissemination of information within a group of people is at most of the times informal and thus requiring less technical skills than if the information was to be communicated across the two parties. It thus calls for a professional approach and advanced skills to communicate across and up and down the corporate ladder than communicating within an organization. The aspects relating to psychological sell are very essential in transferring information from a professional to high school graduates. Logically, you have to understand you audience well and what language you ought to adopt while talking to your audience. Convincing a group of youth requires your confidence and believability.
In conclusion, presentation requires professional communication skills that are improved that are improved on daily bases. Depending on your target audience, you ought to prepare in advance to avoid poor presentation. Psychologically, early preparation helps you to avoid surprises since you are not sure of the type of audience and their personalities. The need to understand the audience is therefore very essential in order to target their needs in the market as well as bias in the projects concerned (Weissman 2009). In my own opinion, presentation requires proper planning in order to avoid poor presentation during presentation. Additionally, one should be psychologically prepared to deal with different type of audience/clients since there is no assurance that all clients will be the same.
