I am 26 years of age. I write to request for a re-admission into UCSD having called off a year from the institution. The previous year out of the university gave me adequate time to reflect upon my future. I have realized that I failed to pay enough attention to my studies. I spent most of my time in school doing things that were not beneficial to my studies. During the fall quarter 2011, I did not pass in two classes. This resulted in a significant drop in my GPA. At that time, I still did not know that I was on academic probation. I only understood that I had to retake Math 20C and work hard on my studies. If I had realized the urgency needed to improve on my GPA, I would not have taken three core classes at the same time. Unfortunately, after I went back to Hong Kong for summer, I found out that I was academically disqualified. As a result, I have learned that one of the major errors that I made was fail to keep track on my academic status. I should have also met with advisors more often. Ultimately, I failed to pay attention on my studies.
I worked as an intern worked in a company called Essence International in Hong Kong after calling off the previous year from school. This illustrates my passion in this field. When I came back to the US, I attended SDSU for two semesters in order to get readmitted to UCSD. Because I was not a regular student in SDSU, I did not have a chance to choose the classes. I could only do ‘walk-ins’. At the first semester, I did not perform so well. I began to think of my family and my future. My parents have sacrificed a lot of their income on my education hoping that I will be in a position to support them after my studies. In addition, the fact that I am a foreign student means that my studies cost relatively more than the local students. My father is getting old and it has been a struggle for him to keep me in school. I believe that succeeding in my studies will help improve the financial status of my family. After spending two semesters of study in SDSU, I have learned that the most important thing about studying in the University is to work hard and maintain a good GPA.
In the future, I intend to fully attend all my lectures in order to obtain a proper understanding of the coursework. Taking good notes in class will also help a lot when I revise the material at home. I also believe that consulting with my TAs and colleagues will help me get an in depth understanding of my classwork. Additionally, I would meet with the advisor every quarter in order to keep track on my academic progress. I understand that I was very poor on my time management. I have learned to improve it by making a time table for every week. This will help me spend more time on my studies.
In conclusion, I deeply regret my decision my inconsiderate and inappropriate decision to leave my studies. I believe that I am now better prepared and motivated to learn and maintain a good GPA. My only hope is that you consider my request for re-admission. I will greatly appreciate an opportunity to continue pursuing my studies at UCSD.
Thank you.
