Rick Warren says that in life, one has to set a purpose driven life where they are in charge of their actions (2012). It is from this perspective that I look at myself because I always want to live for something so that at some point when I sit down and look back, I see myself as an achiever. I always want to look within myself and have a reason to smile because of my achievements. Managing oneself well is paramount in every sphere of life. I understand that in life, nothing happens as an accident and therefore people need to properly manage their lives and use their time well in order to be successful. It is from this background that I have sought to integrate the four management functions into my life. These functions include planning, organizing, leading and controlling every aspect of my life. I have sought to use the management process in order to get the best out of life.
I have always planned for everything that I do in life. there are those times that I do not do things as per plan but this happens in cases where I have no control over what happens to me. I have always set goals against which a gauge myself. I then look for ways of implementing that which I have planned in an effort to achieve that which I have set to do. Always all the time, I set goals which guide me and act as a reminder of the prize and therefore have got to work hard keeping my eyes on the prize. For instance, I have to work hard in my academics because I know it is the only way that I can make it in my dream career. This has prompted me to set goals which will enable me get good grades. I have always set aside time in the evenings with which to carry out my study outside of the classroom. I always visit the library in order to study and do my assignments. I always decide on the grade that I want to get at the end of the semester and therefore go about doing everything within my powers to achieve that.
Secondly, I believe that I am a very organized person. I always have my set of priorities which I work towards achieving. I arrange my tasks in order of priority. For instance, I know that on Sunday mornings before doing anything I have to go to church and thereafter visit a children’s home that is located not very far from my house. It is after this that any other plans for the day can come in. this applies to the people in my life. I arrange these tasks and consult the people I know can help me accomplish them. I stretch out to seek help whenever I need it in order to accomplish that which I have set out to accomplish.
I always want to lead by example. All my life I have wanted to be a good role model for people to emulate and look up to. I work hard at everything I do so as to do my family and me good. Whenever I get somebody stuck with a task that I believe I can help them do, I chip in when necessary. I have always been recommended to help out with children in my local church and fellow youths. It is at this point that I counsel them more especially when it comes to avoiding bad company that may ruin their morals. Drug abuse has been a major problem in our generation today and whenever I get a chance, I talk to my friends on the dangers of use of drugs. This way I believe I help others by telling them what is right and what is not.
I am in charge of everything that I do because it takes proper planning and execution. This way I stay in control of my actions and this has always led me to succeed. The goals that I set to abide by act as a control measure because whenever I get out of track, they act as reminder of that which I have set to do. This may seem difficult to do but the truth is that once a person has guiding principles and goals; it becomes easy to work with them because this leads to absolute commitment. I monitor my performance all the time because I know that this does not only affect my purpose in life but also those people who look up to me as a good role model in society.
I acquired these skills from my parents and siblings because they instilled them in me. I was always told to lead a purposeful life and I heeded the call. Even so, with all these attributes about myself, I believe that I am not a perfect person because I also err. I am always tempted to quit when I feel that things are getting tough. This happens more especially when I am trying to work within the goals. I get a lot of distractions but then, I choose to remain focused on my dreams and in order to achieve them and I am always left no choice but to abide by them. I believe that I need to improve on organizing myself because there are times when I fail to get it right with regard to my priorities.
