Response Essay
In the reading, Mike Rose goes on to describe his subjective experience of noting the brilliance of his mother in her field of work although she was not highly educated. She reached a point of expertise where she could even cater to the varied emotional needs of the customers as the restaurant where she used to work as a waitress. He even talks of his uncle who rose in position working for General Motors owing to his skills and persistence.
The reading is quite an interesting one and puts the limelight on the fact that having degrees and formal education is not the only parameter of judging one’s capability and expertise. In fact, in the present age, schooling and getting degrees might have become quite mechanical.
Thus, it is best to look for the best quality one has and then work on it to achieve success. Success is not achieved only through formal education and degrees, but it takes a lot of hard work on the part of the individual. The tenacity, skills, experience, all come together to the benefit of an individual and catapult him or her in the path of success.
The reading is an inspiration for everyone and ignites the pangs of embarking upon the journey of success in the workplace. It focuses on the subjective strength, rather than formal degrees and thus is a comprehensive piece which delves deep into the actual causes and prospects of human beings.
