As I child I was responsible for quite a few things. At least that’s what it felt like at the time. I innocently thought back then that when I became an adult, all of these responsibilities would disappear and I would be left to do whatever I feel like. I had to clean my room, do my homework, be on time and follow the rules set by my parents. I had to simply do my tasks and thus contribute to the family and to myself as well. As I grew older, my responsibilities increased and I started to understand just how easy life was as a child. In a way, I helped myself grew. By fulfilling my responsibility, I grew up into the person I am today. Now I understood that doing my homework was not simply something to be responsible to, but something that could ensure a successful future for me. I understood that all that I had had to do was a lot more than just a responsibility. My personal opinion is that the responsibilities we are faced with as children, help us become successful and confidents adults.
Now I realized that once we grow up, become adults and start a family, the number of responsibilities doubles, if not triple. I understand now that you become responsible not only for yourself, but for your loved ones. When I imagine my future, I come head to head with the fact that there will be people counting on me to do the right thing and to lift them up when they fall down. I believe that as a grownup you must take care of your second half. I see it as a must that you support him or her and help them through life. As for children, I believe it is quite obvious. If I take on the responsibility of nurturing a new human being, I truly am fully responsible for them. From my point of view, this is one of the biggest responsibilities in life; it is also one of the hardest to follow. I understand that bringing up a little girl or boy is a difficult task, especially if you try to do it well. I hope, however, that later on my efforts will be paid back with the care I receive in return.
However, I believe that one is responsible not only for one’s children and husband/wife. I have always been a strong believer that you have to take care of those, who have taken care of you. I mean your own parents. As they grow older, I see it as my responsibility to take care of them and help them whenever needed. I understand that many parents really make it their goal in life to bring up their children and help them find a place in the world. However, I also understand that once those children leave the family nest, parents may find themselves lost and not wanted. From my point of view, this is especially true for single parents, who have no second half to chair their old age with. Personally, I believe that as a child, you are responsible to take care of the people who have brought you up and made you the man or woman you became.
When speaking about responsibility, I can’t but mention the results of its absence. I’ve noticed that lack of responsibility can have a small effect on a person’s life or change it completely. For example, when I was a little kid, I had missed a homework assignment. At this point, I was irresponsible. However, I did not get severely punished as this was only school and only one homework assignment. At the same time, I saw a boy almost get expelled from school because he was very irresponsible in his studies all the time. I believe that lack of responsibility makes bigger changes the older the person becomes. For example, I understand that being irresponsible at work is something that could lead to one being fired and some ending up unemployed. The way I see it, this could put a whole family in a difficult situation.
I am a strong believe that responsibility is one of the most important traits that every person should have. My point of view is that regardless of who you are, where you stand in society and what you enjoy, your level of responsibility shows how good a person you truly are.
