The article presents an issue surrounding the performance of Rockettes during the inauguration of Trump. Some of the dancers are not willing to participate in the event despite the Chairman’s announcement that they will have to participate. To clear out the air, Mr. Dolan held a meeting with some of the dancers. Marie Claire magazine revealed what had conspired in the meeting something that is not welcomed by the company that manages Rockettes since it interfered with the confidentiality of the other Rockettes. In my opinion, I believe that it was unethical for Hearst Media and Kaitlin Menza to report the contents of the meeting which required to be confidential as reported by Rogers (n.p).
Additionally, it was also unethical for the Mr. Dolan, the chairman of Madison Square Garden not to involve the Rockettes in the decision-making process concerning their planned performance during the inauguration of the newly elected president of United States. The involvement in the decision-making process would have helped the dancers to understand the purpose of business operations for the company during the inauguration. Although Mr. Dolan did not involve all the dancers in the decision-making process, I believe that he has the right as the chairman of the company to utilize any business opportunity that is available for the company (Rogers n.p). Sometimes the manager of the business may be final in making decisions regarding the operation of the business. On this ground, Mr. Dolan’s actions can be seen to be ethical since he is exercising his powers.
On the other hand, it is unethical for the Rockettes to fail to show interest in performing during the Trump Inauguration. The political affiliation of each Rockettes should not affect the business operations of the company. The fact that many Americans are not happy about the newly elected president of United States does not give them the reason not to work with the president. Whether the Rockettes liked Trump as the president of the U.S. or not, they ought to keep in mind that they are employees of the company whose work is to offer entertainment services to their clients. Each business has its purpose and code of conduct which each employee need to understand clearly. Thus, the Rockettes need to forget about their political affiliations and work as per dictated by the code of conduct of the business. Ethically, every professional should not involve him or herself in politics which may impair his or her productivity.
