Essay On Scholarship Application

I would like to apply for a scholarship to study for a Nursing degree. I feel I meet the eligibility requirements, and a scholarship would greatly enhance my chances of success in both college and in life. I am fifty-five years old and my dream is to qualify as a nurse. I am applying for a scholarship as I would like to pursue my ambition, but my financial situation is holding me back.
I have a Bachelor’s degree in Allied Health, and I have been working as a Respiratory Therapist for the last seventeen years. My current role involves working in all areas of the hospital, but I spend most of my time in the intensive care units. While there, I partake in ventilator management and airway management, which sometimes requires intubations. In addition to this, I attend all code blues and perform resuscitative procedures when required. More recently I have started performing these tasks on premature babies, many of whom weigh less than a pound. I have found this to be a hugely rewarding experience. There are heart-breaking moments but there are also a lot of wonderful and uplifting ones.
My reason for wanting to pursue a career in nursing is that I want to be able to do more for my patients. I love my current work, but I feel limited in the help I can give to people who need it. I believe that, as a nurse, I would be able to do a great deal of good, for many people.
Nursing is a life-long learning experience, with a large scope of areas in which to work. Nursing is a demanding career in which new trials arise every day. However, the rewards that accompany it are vast, as it the real sense of job satisfaction.
An essential quality of a nurse is the inborn hunger to help and care for people. Exceptional communication skills are also required, as is the ability to work alone as well as part of a team. I possess all of these qualities, and I am already very experienced in putting them to use in a healthcare setting. I enjoy having individual working responsibilities, while also feeling a member of a well-functioning team. Additionally, I am keen to work closely with tutors and fellow students in achieving my goals, both academic and professional, within a mutually beneficial environment.
I have wanted to go to study nursing for a long time now, but family commitments have been a priority until now. My daughter has recently graduated from college and, therefore, now is the time for me to pursue my own dream.
I am very enthusiastic about this coming year. I have vast amounts of motivation and determination to achieve my dream career. I am aware that nursing is a difficult career path, but I am ready and keen to give one hundred per cent throughout the training and my lasting career.
I sincerely hope that I can enrol in Nursing school this year, and start the process of becoming a fully qualified nurse, and being able to help people to a much higher degree. Obtaining help in the realm of funding is a large hurdle to overcome. However, I feel that I have what it takes to make a real difference in the nursing profession.
