Sexually Abused Teens
Sexual abuse is one of the problems facing most teenagers in the world today. Sexual abuse happens to many teenagers than most people think. A number of teenagers have reported cases of sexual abuse, which have been done to them in the recent past. Sexual abuse happens frequently and in most cases, teenagers are sexually abused by people they know (Carter, 2002). This makes the problem of teen sexual abuse a difficult one to handle because most teens do not report those who abuse them sexually to the relevant authorities. It can thus be assumed that the number of teenage sexual abuse cases is very high but only a few cases are reported and this calls for better ways to prevent such issues before they occur. In most cases, teen sexual abuse happens to the young girls but sometimes boys may also fall victims. There are different ways that can help in curbing teen sexual abuse in the community. One of these ways is education. Teenagers need to be educated on sexual abuse issues and how to prevent it. It is good for teenagers to be informed that sexual abuse is wrong. Adults must also be made aware that sexual abuse for the teens is wrong. As a result, both teenagers and adults need to know what it teen sexual abuse and the various sex acts that encompass teen sexual abuse. Sexually abused teens should also be advised to report their cases to the adults and the relevant authorities to pave way for investigations and proper actions upon the sexual abusers (Carter, 2002). Moreover, teenagers need to be informed of the various factors that may lead to sexual abuse. Such factors include fear, drug abuse and coercion among others. Most teenagers fail to report sexual abuse because they fear stigmatization, retribution and trauma. Teenagers are also reluctant because most of the sexual abuse cases, which have been reported to the authorities, were not addressed well (Carter, 2002). In this connection, there is need to educate the teenagers and adults about teen sexual abuse and the best ways of solving such problems. Sexual abuse among teens is an issue that can be addressed in a group setting. This calls for the formation of the group, which will help in addressing the issue.
Planning and Beginning Stages of the Group
Composition of the group
The group will be composed of teenagers and adults. The teenagers involved in the group will include those who have faced sexual abuse as well as other teenagers who have not faced sexual abuse but may fall victims of the social problem (Gil, & Krystina, 2000). On the other hand, the adults involved in the group will act as instructors to inform the teenagers on how to prevent sexual abuse and what to do when one falls a victim of the social problem. In addition, the adults will also be in the group to take the necessary actions when teenagers report cases of sexual abuse to the group. It will be the responsibility of the adults to pass any information about teen sexual abuse to the relevant authorities. This composition of the group will help it to achieve its mission.
Rationale for developing the group and its purpose and focus
The rationale for developing this group will be to come up with a group, which will curb and prevent sexual abuse among teenagers in the society. This group will also help inform the teenagers about what they can do when they are sexually abused. In this connection, the purpose and focus of the group will be to educate the teenagers on issues of sexual abuse. Teen sexual abuse can be verbal, physical or emotional. As a result, it makes teenagers get used by other people for their own sexual pleasure and this makes the affected teenagers feel hurt and frightened after being sexually abused (Gil, & Krystina, 2000). In order to develop the group, it will also be good to teach them about the various things that should be referred to as sexual abuse. The teenagers will be taught that having some parts of their bodies touched in any sexual way amounts to sexual abuse. In addition, things such as kissing, touching other people’s body parts, watching other people masturbate being forced into sexual activities and being forced to watch pornographic materials is sexual abuse. This will enable teenagers to know what sexual abuse is.
Once the teenagers have known the meaning of sexual abuse, they will be taught what to do when they become victims of such abuse. The group will have adults who will be getting reports of sexual abuse from the teenagers. As a result, the teenagers will be encouraged to report any incidences of sexual abuse to the adult members of the group in order to enable them to take the right measures (Gil, & Krystina, 2000). The main purpose of the group will be prevent and address any cases of teen sexual abuse in the society. The group will be focused in prevent teen sexual abuse in the society as well as addressing the problem of sexually abused teens in the society. In addition, this group will also discuss the effects of sexual abuse among the teens and how to address such effects. By teaching the teenagers how to avoid being sexually abused, the group will help to make sure that teenagers are protected and they feel very secure while in the society. The adults in the group will also learn the law that protects people from any form of sexual abuse. This law states that when a person does not freely accept to have any sexual acts with another person, that sexual act will be termed as sexual abuse (Gil, & Krystina, 2000). This law will guide the entire group in making sure that teenagers do not continue suffering from sexual abuse without getting the right help.
Techniques to be used in orienting the group
One of the techniques that will be used in orienting the group is through seminars. Different seminars will be held to educate the group members about teen sexual abuse. These seminars will also help in educating the group members on teen sexual abuse prevention and response. Another technique that will be used to orient the members of the group is group assignments. The group members will split into smaller groups and each of the groups will be assigned a task about teen sexual abuse. Each group will research on the task assigned to it and presentations will be made in the entire group in order to enhance learning. There will also be individual tests to ensure that all the members of the group understand its aim and focus. Once all the members of the group have known what is expected from them, the group will embark on its mission in order to ensure that they help in preventing and addressing sexual abuse among the teenagers in the society. In this connection, the group will succeed in eliminating sexual abuse in the society.
