Shakira Isabel Merabak Ripoll was born on February 2, 1977 in the Colombian city of Barranquilla. The girl became the first child of the mother and the last kid of her father and that made her to be the favorite child in the family. From very early childhood, Shakira began to show interest to literature and music. She was super smart and at the age of 4 she was all prepared for school. Her mother always thought that her daughter will grow as an artist or a writer, as Shakira liked to draw, and then, at the age of four she began to write poetry herself. The school thought that Shakira would a ballerina or a dancer because of her different performances at school. However, parents spotted Shakira as a singer when she was eight years old. At this time, Shakira wrote the song "Your dark glasses”. At the age of ten, parents have turned to be Shakira’s managers, and began to invite her to dance belly dancing. Her parents also insisted for her to compete in different competitions where she always took the first place. A few years later a journalist Monica Arias introduced her to the manager of Sony Music - Ciro Vargas. When he heard Shakira’s sweet voice, he offered her to sign a contract and become a singer. From that moment on she combined studies and a lot of fun recording her first album “Magic” (“Magia”). At the age of fifteen, Shakira recorded a second album “Peligro”. She attended school in Barriloche, and although she was an actress in college she was not allowed to sing in the choir, one of the teachers said that her voice is like a goat mooing. It was a hard blow for Shakira , but beyond this unpleasant comment, she became a star. Shakira was not only a singer but also a movie actress; however, she didn’t think she can become a good actress and decided to leave cinematography. When the singer was ready to start recording the long-awaited fourth album “Dónde Están Los Ladrones?” ("Where are the thieves?"), At the airport someone stole the paper with all the new songs. Nevertheless she wrote new songs that became very popular. In 1999, Shakira received the prestigious World Music Award, which greatly promoted her on the music stage. Next year, Shakira received first «Grammy», for the best Latin album. In the same period, Shakira is actively working on the next album, which is intended for a European audience. It was a new round of development of the young singer's career. The album and singles became leaders in many European countries the charts. The next Shakira’s achievement is MTV Latin Awards. Thus, Shakira has reached the heights of international fame, which remains to this day; however according to Shakira’s words, she will never stop. In 2007, Shakira received her first MTV Video Music Award for “Beautiful Liar”, which she sang with Beyonce. In the new album “Sale el sol” the singer returns to Spanish. For this album, Shakira received numerous awards and in 2010 - 2011 made a world tour with the same name. Shakira became famous in different countries all over the world. She mostly works in America; however, she never forgets where she came from. “I’m trying to make my accent so it won’t bother anyone, but I’m not going to drive myself crazy trying to pretend I’m an American girl when I am from Columbia.” (Shakira) Personal life Shakira always interested everyone, she was dating with Antonio de la Rua , son of the president of Argentina, for eleven years, but they broke up in August 2010. After that, she started dating footballer Gerard Pique. Shakira is very open person and here is what she says about gossiping around her personal life: “It doesn’t bother me to talk about my private life, it doesn’t bother me to talk about anything. My life is like a glass of water, transparent.”(Shakira) Throughout her career, Shakira has been active in charity. In Colombia, there is a monument dedicated to Shakira.
