Question 1
The lake park, the largest lake in the county was closed because rock slides and mud had destroyed part of the Cambridge Road which is the only access road to the park. This is seen when Hugh Foster a worker at the park and Recreation Department says “We had to remove tons of boulders and rocks," he later says “Then we had to rebuild a bridge and reconstruct almost a mile of highway. I'm really surprised we got it done so soon.” This seems to be due to poor weather that had blocked the road which is the only access road to the park.
Question 2
The Silas Lake Park, which is three miles north of Colfax on Highway 28, was reopened after being closed for six months. It had been closed because the only accessible road to the park had been destroyed by poor weather.
Question 3
The park averages 2000 people every day during the summer who visit the park for different activities offered. Foster explains this by saying, "They come here to fish, swim, water-ski, jet-ski, picnic, commune with Mother Nature, you name it. People love this place.” The park is open from morning to 10 p.m. in the night. Park officials might soon start allowing campers to stay overnight on weekends, due to a lot of requests from customers who visit the park frequently.
Question 4
The entry charges are $10 per boat and $10 per vehicle. The parking lot has a capacity that holds 500 vehicles. Vehicles are not allowed in when the parking lot is full. Other services offered in the park include two ramps for boaters, a snack bar, a restaurant, a boat rental facility, more than 100 picnic tables, a soccer field, a soft ball field, two volleyball courts, a small tackle store, free shower facilities and public restrooms. Just like other county parks alcohol is not sold or permitted within its premises. During the summer, a designated swimming area in the park has a lifeguard on duty every day. Other popular activities in the park are horseshoes and kite-flying.
