Whenever introducing a student to a subject or a course most of them are always assumed to be amateur in that area of knowledge. Hence, it requires the tutor understand this and start the new concept from the beginning in order for everybody to understand. A plan of action is thus required to be able to equate the level of understanding of each student. It is through this that the learning process is enhanced since no assumptions are made concerning the knowhow of a student concerning a given subject. Comprehensive teaching entails giving a detailed coverage of a given subject area in a bid to ensure that all the necessary facts are comprehended and grasped. This can only be done by constructing a program me that ensures all the facets of a subject are covered and well understood by students (Studies, 2005).
This literature will try to explain the reason why my devise represents best practices for the coaching of social studies and how my guru’s practices influenced the way I came up with this devise. It explicitly gives an in depth analysis of the different strands that are crucial in the coaching process and how they are beneficial to the students who are being coached. An objective conclusion on the topic of discussion shall also be given in order to give a critical perspective of the device (Lee, 2009). Following is an evaluation of the different strands in the program me;
Days
Each day always has a new thing to be learnt. Although my mentor always starts with the refreshing of people’s minds by revisiting of yesterdays concepts, much of the things that are learnt each day are always new concepts with regard to the topic of discussion. This enables progress in the tackling of the work organization to finally achieve the goals of the overall concepts of the course (Margret, 2008).
The days therefore determine topics that are to be covered. Through this, it is easy to set goals on how the course shall be covered and by what time should it be done. Days specify or rather highlight short-term goals that act as modules that are solely responsible for the attainment of the holistic objective. Having specific days set aside for specific topics will also enable the students read ahead, this further enhances their understanding of the topic of discussion, as he or she is already familiar with it (Margret, 2008).
Concepts and Terms
Each and every course has terms that are unique to it. Hence the introduction of the new terms is of much significance to the student. This is because it aids in the familiarization much of the difficult terms that are likely to be difficult in conceptualizing. Thus, this step is of much significance to the student to avoid confusion in the middle of the course.
A clear understanding of the terminologies involved in a given subject or topic enhances the level of understanding of the students. Their comprehending potential is also enhanced greatly since terminologies that would rather be problematic have been clearly outlined. Concepts behind a given subject are also crucial if they are understood from the very beginning. It would be quite difficult for a student to understand a given topic comprehensively if concepts that govern the topic are not well highlighted or explained to him. It is therefore incumbent on the tutor to ensure that terminologies are clearly interpreted and concepts explicitly understood by the students before teaching them any new topic (Studies, 2005).
Sources of reference materials
These are bibliographies that help the student in understanding much of the visited concepts by visiting other sources of information material. This aids the student in understanding of much of the concepts that were not well understood. This aids in the progress of the students and more learning and interaction between the students and the mentor. This enhances the mutual progress of both parties (Lee, 2009).
In order to enhance the understanding of the students concerning a given topic, they should be directed to where they can find more information on a given topic of discussion. Sourcing for more information encourages research that is crucial for knowledge development. It is through knowledge development emanating from research that, innovation and ideas are generated. These innovations and ideas act as pillars upon which knowledge on a given subject area is created.
Organization of Work
Organized work enables easy teaching of the course, since all the topics to be covered for are stipulated and adequate time allocated to them. Organization of the work by the tutor also aids in the formulation of a synopsis the of titles as well as subtitles to be covered in the course. This strand demands that a comprehensive introduction of the course or subject be given before students are subjected to the teaching and learning process. This is in order to familiarize them with the subject and its scope so that they can be ready to tackle it. Illustrations should also be used in while teaching the course to enhance the understanding and the interpretation of concepts in the subject. The illustrations may range from maps, charts as well as tables (Lee, 2009).
Evaluation technique
At the end of the course, it is vital to conducts an evaluation test on the students to gauge their level of understanding as pertains to a given subject. This evaluation can be done through setting of structured questions that require straightforward answers or setting of open-ended questions whose answers are open to discussion as well as justifications. The tutor through this gets an opportunity to measure the level of understanding of the students concerning the taught subject. It is upon the results obtained that the tutor may be able to recognize the strengths and weaknesses of his or her students and come up with measures of maintaining the strengths and working on the weak spots so as to better the comprehension of the subject by the students (Margret, 2008).
Conclusion
From the forgoing, it is evident that the discussed program me of teaching is recommendable to any tutor on the subject under discussion and any other (Margret, 2008). This is so because by following the mentioned strands while teaching a particular course one is likely to induce the necessary knowledge to the students besides giving them a clear understanding of the subject. It comprehensively covers the aspect of time management as well as planning, which are the vital components that are responsible for the success of any teaching or coaching process.
