Essay On Survival Of Individuals And Society

Any society is stable only when they have common goals which majorities of people strive to achieve. In my opinion, success of individual is not the determining factor in the survival of the society. It is the success of groups which share common interests and think alike that helps the society in moving forward. Any revolution in the history of humanity has happened because there were groups of people sharing common ideologies. An example of such an incidence is The Iranian Revolution of 1979. There were groups of people inside the country that felt the need to overthrow the kingdom of Shah because of the atrocities faced by majority of Iranians. The ruler Shah did have the support of individuals but many religious and human rights groups were against him and that resulted in a revolution which claimed his entire kingdom.
The influence which a group has towards contributing in the development of society is significant. Their ideas are heard and taken seriously more often. It is a difficult task for an individual to influence the thinking of the society. On the contrary, groups are influential and therefore are responsible for being the torch bearers of change in a society. Freedom struggle in countries which were under colonial power also succeeded because there were groups willing to fight for it. For eg- India was under colonial rule for over 200 years. Freedom struggle used to get crushed generally because of the presence of less of number of people. Under the leadership of Mahatma Gandhi and with the influence of a political party (Indian National Congress), people across the country were united and fought as one for the country’s freedom. This example portrays that how important it is for people to be in groups to achieve a certain goal. Success of the society and its functioning is based when the groups perform their duties well. This can also be seen in our day to day life. In health care system, all the groups at the hospital, be it doctors, nurses or the janitors, are required to work together to ensure that best service is delivered. Good work of only one individual is not required. This shows us the importance of the group.
