Like any other projects, the introduction of a change in business systems and its implementation in an organization is not always 100% successful. This is true even if careful and in-depth study on its implementation has been conducted. Sometimes, even the conduct of mock-up implementation or initial implementations or the complete support of the management is not a guarantee that the implementation will be successful.
Two of the major risks in system implementation concerned with issues regarding institutional fit and implementation challenges. Institutional fit concerns with the question if the system to be implemented is really applicable for the needs of the organization. Sometimes, organizations tend to benchmark with other companies where specific systems have been successfully implemented. However, they fail to realize that what may be applicable to other organizations may not be 100% applicable to them. To mitigate this risk, careful background study must be conducted first before coming up with whatever decision concerning the implementation of systems. The needs of each user must be well studied so that each of them will be included in the overall system. Sometimes, the development of a system that is solely for the organization is better than just buying readymade software.
A second risk concerns implementation challenges that the organization may come across. This can be on the technical side of implementation or problems that has to do with failure to convince the users to use the system. To solve this can be to find solutions as early as possible because it will be harder if this will be addressed once nearing its full implementation. There must also be a flexible implementation to attune it to the situation.
