What the performance was trying to achieve is a message that, despite the Herdman kids’ horrible behaviors, they are still children of God, who can do something better than what they usually do. The director, along with the playwright wanted the production and the actors’ performance to be in line with the true meaning of Christmas is. Specifically, they want the audience to see that children, the Herdman kids in this case, were not born to be as bad as what people normally see them in which were able to prove that they can do something better in their lives.
- Was the performance successful in achieving the goals that you discussed in question one? How and why?
Yes it was because the actors were able to portray the roles accordingly. The depiction of the Herdman kids’ characteristics may have affected the minds of the people that surround them, which also showed that being a judgmental to others may have been wrong in the first place. For example, when no one objected after the Herdman kids volunteered for the major roles in the Christmas pageant, everybody thought that it would be a disaster once the pageant night comes. In contrast, everything went well as these delinquent children were able to perform better, which made the pageant the best Christmas pageant ever according to the Reverend, Mrs. Armstrong and Mrs. McCarthy.

Yes it was because the play itself represented a simple yet meaningful message of what Christmas is all about in addition to the twist that was added to the Christmas story. It was worth watching because of the character transformation of Herdman kids.
