The Budget Simulation Game Assignment
1. In which categories did you make the greatest changes? Why? Which categories did you not change?
The budget is a very important tool in the government since it is used in the planning of both the available resources that are readily available. Different sections in the government are assigned diverse amounts of money according to their effect on the economy of the nation (Kerzner, 2009). For this reason, the categories I made the greatest changes were Education, Military spending, Medicare, social security and aid to low income families. I made the greatest changes in these sections since it affects the security, education and the social welfare of the citizens. The categories I made the least changes encompass of; science, space and technology, and natural resource and environment.
2. What do your proposed changes indicate about your beliefs regarding what the government should do for us?
The government should concentrate on the welfare of the people especially concerning the level of education. When the percentage of the people educated is high, it indicates that the citizens can get employed and hence become independent. The level of security of the nation is also a vital aspect that the government should consider. The security should be enhanced both internally and external security (Hofstede, 2003). This ensures that the people are safe and the properties invested into are not destroyed. The government should also concentrate on helping the less fortunate in the community. This aids in reducing the number of people that really on others for survival hence improving the economy of the nation.
3. Which 3 changes do you feel are the most important? Why?
The three most important changes that should be implemented on the budget encompass of social security, education and Medicare. This is for the key reason that the well budget of the country determines the development and the well being of the citizens. The social security should be effective to ensure that the people are safe from terrorists and crimes. The level of education should be improved to ensure that the people are educated, employed hence can be self dependency (Kerzner, 2009). The Medicare should also be improved to reduce the death rate and increase infant mortality rate.
If these 3 budget changes could actually be carried out, what effects would you expect to see in our society as a result?
The first effect that would be noticed is that the economy of the nation would increase with a large percentage. This is for the reason that citizens would be employed since they are skilled and educated. The developments in the society would also increase especially infrastructures. The citizens would also be safe from terrorism and crime since the security would be enhanced (Hofstede, 2003).
4. What are the best things we could do to help reduce the federal deficit?
What kinds of compromises might be necessary if we lower current spending in order to reduce the deficit? Would those compromises be worthwhile in your opinion? Explain.
Programs that benefit the elderly and the poor in the community should be compromised to reduce the spending of the government thus reducing deficits (Kerzner, 2009). Since the government uses a lot of money for the elderly and the poor, reducing the expenditures will extremely save the government deficits. Such compromises will be worthwhile since more money will be saved and reduce the deficits of the government.
5. Overall, what do you consider the most important roles of government as a social institution?
The key role that government should achieve as a social institution to the citizen is the role of promoting and improving the welfare of the citizens. This can be achieved through planning and organizing the limited resources available to meet the unlimited human wants and needs (Hofstede, 2003).
