The time gap between the childhood of the parent and that of the child is significantly large. There is much that happened in between the child’s time and the parents childhood times. Likewise, there has been a change in the face of the world. Globalization has brought with it social change and technological changes too. Moreover, the term ‘world village’ has been invented due to the simplified mode of interaction throughout the world. These changes have percolated to the most basic institutional organ ‘the family.’ It is true that every adult who takes care of children have responsibility to correct guide and socialize them towards appropriate behaviors. When children undergo positive guidance and discipline they exhibit self control, responsibility and help children make considerate choices.
Effective guidance and discipline is centered on the growth of the child. Therefore, guidance and discipline also preserve a child’s dignity and self esteem. The act of teaching children discipline is demanding. Furthermore, it requires thoughtful attention, patience, cooperation and excellent understanding of the child. Children of the recent time are learning much and with a very limited time unlike their parents who were still being held by the cultural ideologies. It was easier to discipline a child and control the thing they came to contact with but with. In the childhood of the parents there were know much guidance and discipline practices like today. The world was not as open as it is today and children could not be intoxicated with bad habits, furthermore, the cell phone and the internet had not been improvised. In contrast with what is happening today instilling discipline in a child today is more difficult it used to be in those days.
The word ethic is used to mean doing right. A code of ethics for the child and the care provider is a guide for dealing responsibly and irresponsibly with the kids. In many children morals and ethics are learned from the parents. Likewise, in the childhood of the parents the moral obligation of the parent was to instill in to the child positive moral values and ethic. Contrary, to what many people think the role of parenting have to changed, it is the mean that have significantly been abandoned and better ones adopted.
Unlike the yesteryears, today children are being brought up in the kindergarten; therefore they do not get enough time and chance to be mould by their parents. Consequently, this has been the major reason of lack of good ethics in the young generation. However, to the kindergarten training in the childhood on the parents they used to spend much of their time with their family thus attaining a lot of skills and moral ethics. A lot of child educations have been put into practice; hence many parents are eager to know
Respect is the pillar of every family, in comparison to the children today; in the childhood of their parent respect to elders was highly observed. Nevertheless, to both time frames, parents dedicate their time to teaching respect. Children either from the childhood of the parents or the naturally learn their interactions from us; it is hence the role of parents to nature respect in to the kids.
There is a necessity for freedom in children in order for them to grow and learn, however this cannot thrive in unlimited freedom. Therefore, in disciplining the children we aim to set reasonable limits which protect children from mischief and teach them on safe and unsafe. If they are to grow up to be conscientious, responsible and dependable adult they ought to learn the social, ethical and moral standards considered acceptable in the community.
