Not so long ago, in November 2013, one of the most highly anticipated next-generation consoles from Nintendo was released, and the popularity that it has gained – is considerable. Games for Wii U are traditionally in high demand, and, generally, many admirers of Nintendo and ordinary gamers tend to buy a new Wii U, however the price is not so very low (the price for the basic 8 GBset was $299.99 at the beginning of sales). Of course, it can be said that the console did not become such a great hit, as its previous iteration, the standard Wii, but, nevertheless, it has acquired its fanbase, and for sure it settled at the homes of many gamers.
The console Wii U, that comes in various trim levels: basic and premium (which is primarily characterized by the available memory), is, unquestionably, a great technical step forward, in comparison to its predecessor. The console provides with no problem an image of High Definition resolution, which is allowed by a powerful triple-core processor and graphics card from Radeon. Definitely, the console is often blamed for the relative weakness in comparison with rivals, such as upcoming PS4 and Xbox One, and games on it are “going to lack some of that next-gen chrome” (Peckham, “Is It Time to Buy Nintendo’s Cheaper Wii U? Here’s a List of Pros and Cons”), but if we remember, Nintendo almost never sought to become a winner in a technical race, trying to achieve success with the innovative techniques.
It goes without saying, the most interesting feature in the new consoles from Nintendo are their controllers. Still, fans of the previous console of the company may not worry, as they can play games with the help of the traditional Classic, as well as Wii remote, controllers. But the main salt of the new console is its GamePad. And this accessory for Wii U shows extremely impressive characteristics. In actual fact, the GamePad, in fact, is almost a full-fledged portable console. Thanks to the available screen, the gamer is able, for example, to leave TV screen, lie down or sit on the couch and still continue to play, when the image will now appear on the screen of the GamePad.
It is largely thanks to the innovative controller that allowed sales of Wii U to stay at a high level. After all, the potential of it is obvious. In games it can be displaying a map, in fighting games – a list of techniques that can be performed by pressing a single button, and so on. And the recent $50 cut in Wii U prices, with an injection of new nail-biting Super Mario 3D World and fitness title Wii Fit U games, is going to overcome a huge slump in sales of the Wii U (Molina, “Nintendo cuts price of Wii U video game console”). By the July 2013 Wii U sales globally stopped at the mark of 3.61 million, but the company management assures to sell over 9 million consoles during the 2013 fiscal year.
It goes without saying, the game console Wii U has got various advanced features, such as powerful web browser and the ability to download games via the Internet, as well as a variety of different social functions. By means of a network service Miiverse, responsible for global communication, players can look for partners for multiplayer games, communicate in text and video chat.
It is possible that Nintendo Wii U has not sparked a revolutionary furor, the way its predecessor did, and some claims against the console cannot not mentioned, but it's still an unconventional and unusual product that will let the customer spend time not just in front of the TV screen, but in the way it is convenient to him by virtue of the innovative controller. And an impressive set of games for sure allow not to regret of the purchase, and only to enjoy an exciting pastime while gaming.
